With all the excitement about the reveal of the 2023 Corvette Z06 this week, it’s easy to forget that other variants of Chevy’s mid-engine supercar are likely in the works, including the rumored E-Ray hybrid, the ZR1, and the ultimate Zora.

Then there are the persistent rumors that Chevy might really go all out and decide to expand the Corvette brand into the ultra-popular SUV segment.

No one other than a few chosen ones at General Motors really knows if a Corvette SUV is actually under development, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from trying to show us what such a vehicle could look like.

C8 Corvette Stingray

In fact, the latest to join the craze is SRK Designs, who take us step by step during this nine-minute YouTube video detailing how they used software to combine the front of a Corvette Stingray with the rear of a Lamborghini Urus to create the world’s second Super Sport Utility Vehicle or SSUV.

Rumor has it that the Ferrari Purosangue could actually beat all competitors, including Corvette, to become the second such SSUV.

Expanding the Corvette brand is obviously a controversial topic among sports car enthusiasts, some of whom believe that it would cheapen the image of Chevy’s sports car while others argue it could prove to be a smart strategy to take advantage of Corvette’s rich performance heritage to create an SSUV. For the traditionalist naysayers, just think of a Corvette SSUV as a chance to return to the front-engine days of yesteryear.

We’re in the latter camp, but unfortunately, we wonder if GM would ever take such a drastic step, considering it might fear cannibalizing sales of its own already immensely popular Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade.

However, done properly – see Porsche’s Cayenne, for example – Chevy could have a real hit on its hands. Could you imagine a Corvette SSUV with the power and finesse of a ZR1?

So, we join the growing chorus urging Chevrolet to take the plunge and expand the Corvette brand into the SSUV world. And it would have to be an SSUV – no puny version like the Blazer or Tahoe – it would have to be worthy of the Corvette name. While sales would likely be limited, it could still prove profitable for GM based on how customers of the C8 sports car have really been loading their Stingrays with lots of options so far.

  1. Um, no. And here is why…

    1. Porsche never had any other SUVs in its lineup, whereas GM has more than enough to choose from between Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick.

    2. Corvette is a car. Not a brand.

A Corvette SUV is not the way.

  2. Wow, that’s nearly as awesome as the E-Mustang or those weird-looking things from BMW and Mercedes, butt-ugly but a zillion HP. Keep the laughs coming, thanks! 🙂

  3. The Lamborghini Urus is the best selling Lamborghini off all time! Which is odd because it’s based off of an Audi SUV and it only came out in the last few years. It definitely shows how popular crossovers and sport utility vehicles have become. Even Ferrari is developing an SUV now, and that goes against what the company traditionally stood for which was based on racing pedigree. The Corvette being turned into an SUV would be sacrilegious! Just like the Mach E bastardized the Mustang by stealing its look and design and name plate. But demand, or the act of forcing people into something that they may not want is already happening. EV’s are a good example of that. Less than 2% of population drives an EV so the popularity of those vehicles are still extremely low. Remove the tax breaks and incentives and hardly anyone would buy or lease one. The government shouldn’t be telling anybody what they should be driving! And they shouldn’t be lecturing us about anything with how wasteful and irresponsible they are.

  4. Just No! I’m not against Chevrolet doing a high performance SUV, but just leave the Corvette name a lone. Don’t be like Ford a water down a Brand/model.

  5. I have been purchasing GM for all my life and I want a sporty SUV all Electric so if GM does not come our with an all E in 2 or 3 years I will be seriously looking at the Mustang E and I have never owned a Ford!

  6. It is my understanding there will be an emergency kit for EVs for when drivers are faced with the inevitable hours long gridlock behind an accident on an Interstate highway – it will be known as the Electron Can and will contain enough spare electricity to get you to a charging station when traffic begins to move again.
