All 1958 Corvettes are a mean ride in their own right. But by the time this particular ’58 restomod was finished, it’s reached a whole new level.

“This thing is just bitchin’,” says the host of Autopia, which spotlighted this Corvette in a recent video that includes a visit to the shop that handcrafted one of the best custom interiors we’ve seen.

“I mean, how much can you hate on a car that’s got an Art Morrison chassis, a 572 big block, in an all-fiberglass Corvette? This thing is just awesome.”

We’d tend to agree with his assessment.

This one looks like it has been done to absolute perfection, starting with that 572 V8 that’s a perfect fit for the engine bay – well, almost since it pops up slightly through a hole in the hood that shows off all that craftsmanship.

When the guys take it for a spin on the video, check out the sound of those custom three-inch stainless exhausts with Magnaflow mufflers. They’re a perfect complement to make the shifts from the Tremec six-speed manual transmission sound awesome as this ‘Vette motors down the road.

Other mechanical improvements include a set of massive Wilwood brakes, with six pistons in the front and four pistons in the back, giving this car more than ample stopping power. They also happen to look great behind the custom polished Schott Tomahawk wheels with a split five-spoke design that is mirrored by the very nice custom steering wheel done by the guys at Gabe’s Custom Interiors.

The black paint shows off the lines of this classic C1 to a T, and the custom Gabe’s red interior really pops against it.

Getting in and out of a C1 usually isn’t easy because of the cramped quarters, but Gabe’s made it much easier with the custom steering wheel as well as the custom seats that were handbuilt from scratch to make them sit as low and as far back as possible. They also used AMG-style square perforation materials to cover the interior, including in the simple but beautiful trunk.

Other custom features in the interior include a set of Classic Instruments gauges and a full custom audio system.

While the hosts believe the car weighs less than 3,000 pounds, that’s probably not accurate since it originally left the St. Louis factory tipping the scales at 2,926 pounds. With the huge 572 engine and other upgrades, it’s likely that this restomod surpassed the 3,000 mark, but who cares?

This has to be one of the most beautiful Corvettes we’ve seen, all years, not just from ’58. The black exterior and red interior really work well together, and the craftsmanship is top of the line throughout. Not to mention that sound, oh that sound!

A tip of the hat to all the folks who had a hand into lovingly transforming this ’58 into a truly one of a kind masterpiece!

  1. Never cared for restomods, preferring bone stock old Corvettes, but this one is beautifully done and very impressive, inside and out. I’m not a fan of that steering wheel, but I get what they were trying to do with it. Sounds awesome, too!!

  2. I think its well done. I agree with Chuck, that steering wheel is way to busy.. I would like something with more of a competition/ racing wheel. The wheels on it our a little too “blingy” for me also. Love the 572 with the injection stacks, and of course a correct transmission for a Corvette the Tremec 6-speed
