We dropped the rumor last week that Guy Fieri is in contention to be the pace car driver at this year’s Indianapolis 500 and today we learned that its official. The celebrity chef and Corvette owner will be driving the 2013 Corvette ZR1 to start the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 27th.

As we get closer to the release of the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition the anticipation is rising! Kerbeck Corvette already has a couple dozen on order and scheduled to be built between now and the end of June. In fact, some are already built and waiting to ship! All we need now is for GM to announced a release date for the 2013 Corvettes.
There are a lot of significant Corvettes out there. The first fuelie, the first big block, the first car of any Corvette generation or model year, etc. Many of these cars get locked away in a museum and seldom, if ever, see use on the road. When we stumbled across this video of EX-87, “the Duntov Mule”, which now resides in the Lingenfelter Collection we had to pass it along. Click past the jump to take a fresh look at the first V8 equipped Corvette.
About the only thing you can understand from the narration on this German video is “Autobahn,” “Corvette,” “McLaren,” and “Dodge Viper.”
But in this case, a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, even if they are in German. That’s all you have to see to start crying about these once magnificent supercars.

At the 2012 NCM Bash held last weekend at the National Corvette Museum, GM test driver Jim Mero and engineer Jeff Mosher talked about their last visit to the Nurburgring in 2011 where the 2012 Corvette ZR1 lapped the famous circuit in 7:19.63, beating their previous run in 2008 of 7:26.4 and claiming the unofficial title as the fastest production car on the ‘ring.

Night Race Blue is the new blue exterior color for the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette. It’s very dark but when in direct sunlight, the metallic color really shines.

Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky will be holding its annual Mini-Corvette Challenge that day, helping to raise money for JA programs.
