On Saturday afternoon we brought you the news that the first retail 2024 Corvette E-Ray with VIN 001 was offered at Barrett-Jackson’s 20th Anniversary Palm Beach sale. Bidding was quick for the world’s quickest Corvette and it would hammer at $1.1 million with another bidder adding an additional $50K for the charity auction.

The winner of the Corvette E-Ray was Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick. We understand that Rick wasn’t there personally, but his representatives had him on the phone during the sale to ensure that it wouldn’t get away. Hendrick spoke with the Detroit Free Press and he had this to say about the new Corvette E-Ray:

“From electrified all-wheel drive to being the fastest Corvette ever made, the E-Ray is a true first-of-its-kind supercar,” Hendrick said. “Before I even had a driver’s license, I fell in love with the Corvette and daydreamed of owning one. For people like me who have watched its evolution across seven decades and eight generations, this represents a new chapter. As a Corvette enthusiast, it’s a piece of history.”

As the winner of this first retail 2024 Corvette E-Ray, Hendrick will be able to spec the car anyway he wants. Any guesses as to which colors this Corvette will end up being? We have some thoughts on that for well…

This was also charity auction, and one hundred percent of the sales price is going to DonorsChoose whose mission is “meeting the needs of public schools in low-income communities.”

Barrett-Jackson released the video of the E-Ray’s sale at Palm Beach, so for those who didn’t see the original sale can now watch the replay. The E-Ray was represented on stage with an introduction from Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter.

Prior to the sale of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, Chevrolet previously sold the first retail production models of the 2020 Corvette Stingray Coupe and Convertible, and the first 2023 Corvette Z06 Coupe and Convertible. Altogether, these five C8 Corvettes sold through Barrett-Jackson have raised $9.1 million for charity.

Before the E-Ray hit the Barrett-Jackson auction block, we were also treated with this video featuring Tyler Hoover and April Rose who discussed the details on the first retail production 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 3LZ VIN 001 offered with No Reserve:

  1. Screw Hendrick and his deep pockets. I’m sick of this guy, yeah I know it’s for charity but that doesn’t make it fair or right, not only does he get to right it off but gets a free car in doing it if I ever hit the lottery I’ll put an end to his bull shit.
