Our friends at Mecum Auctions will soon be holding their Las Vegas sale scheduled for November 12-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and we found some really great-looking Corvettes that will be offered during the three day event.
Currently, there are 23 Corvettes consigned to the auction and we expect to see a few more before action gets underway.
There is always that one Corvette that really catches our eye in the consignments, and this run list also yielded a favorite. And the more I looked at, the more I thought about the type of buyer who would be interested in this particular build.
This 1967 Corvette Coupe in Marina Blue with a Black interior is being offered at the Las Vegas auction at NO RESERVE. It’s the one that leaped off the page, and it has some fabulous curb appeal with the Rally Wheels and Side Exhaust. What makes it “stand out” from other 1967s is the non-original engine and transmission. The V8 currently residing under the hood is a date code-correct 327 cubic inch V8 that is mated to a Tremec TKO 5-Speed manual transmission.
That’s what got me thinking about who would be a buyer for this car. Conventional wisdom might say it’s a value purchase by a buyer wanting a ’67 Corvette and is not really concerned about the numbers matching. Its also got some great restomod vibes without looking like a restomod, and that might appeal to someone looking for modern reliability while maintaining mid-year’s classic looks. This ’67 Sport Coupe has been equipped with an MSD electronic ignition and a 4-barrel 650 CFM carburetor with electric choke, while also having a new fuel tank and sending unit. So it’s our belief that when given the opportunity, it starts right up for its owner and is ready to hit the road.
Under the hood is the classic 327 V8 with Edelbrock’s RPM power package, and it includes an aluminum intake and heads, Hedman ceramic headers, a newer water pump and thermostat. It also has an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, power brakes, and a new clutch kit. While not a big deal, I do prefer the larger air filter assemblies to this small unit we see here.
Inside the cockpit is a black interior that does look original to the car. The mileage on the odometer shows 54,502 miles and all the gauges look to be functioning correctly. The car is not concours and we noticed wear that would be consistent with a nearly 60-year-old vehicle.
The Marina Blue 1967 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe is a No-Reserve Mecum Star car and it will be offered for sale on Saturday, November 14th as Lot #S191.
