We already featured this LS6 video from the guys at ICT Billet who broke down the major differences between the outgoing fifth-gen LT2 V8 and the new six-generation LS6. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a quick five minutes long and very much worth the watch.
Now we see a new video that explores the LS6 engine’s new revolutionary dual main oil feed system. GM briefly mentioned the LS6’s new lubrication system in the official press release, but now we have a better look at the new engine’s entire oil system via a GM animation video.
Much of the LS6 oil system is similar to that the LT2 V8. But the key difference reveals the presence of oil crossing over through the rear cover, which is believed to still exist to feed the upper main oil gallery on the passenger side. From there, oil feeds through the lifters and push rods up to the rocker arms and down to the crankshaft.
The key difference lies in the oil feeds coming from the upper main oil galleries down to the crankshaft. In previous generations (Gen 3, 4, and 5), there was only a single oil feed to the crankshaft, typically from the driver’s side. However, the Gen 6 LS6 introduces a V-shaped dual main oil feed system, delivering oil from both sides to the crankshaft.
The guys at ICT Billet believe this new dual feed system promises improved oil distribution to critical engine components. The new system could potentially enhance the reliability and performance of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and the Stingray which will see the new engine as well. Make sure to check out the video which clocks in at under three minutes:
