[VIDEO] Take a Deeper Dive into the New LS6 and How It Compares to the LT2

The new Gen VI 6.7L LS6 naturally aspirated V8 boasts a displacement of 409 cubic inches and delivers an impressive 535-hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. While at first glance the next generation engine resembles the LT2, there are some big differences between the two.

This five minute video from the guys at ICT Billet takes us through many of the similarities and differences between the two engines. A couple of the changes we find remarkable is the higher 13:1 compression racing as well as the LS6 having a dual fuel injection system which incorporates both port and direct injection methods.

We also learn that the LS6 is managed by GM’s E68 Engine Control Module which is the same ECM used in the Z06 and ZR1. That ECM was recently cracked by HP Tuners so we could see tuners going to work immediately on the new 409 ci V8 to see what kind of horsepower can be made with the new engine.

  1. Mr. Michael (Mike) Kociba GM assistant chief engineer for small-block engines. New engine management system for the new LS6, known internally as ” Encantado.” The name barrowed from Brazilian folklore, and referees a shapeshifting cryptid. It’s an appropriate name, as the system relies on machine learning to help speed up testing and will improve over time. The LS6 marks the first V-8 application of the software. Mr. Kociba brings experience from previous roles at Saint-Gobain, Dow AgroSciences, Hemlock Semiconductor corp. and Visteon corp. Mr. Kociba holds a 1994-1999 Bachelor of Science (BS) in chemical Engineering @ Michigan Technology University. Road & Track. Thanks Ray
