The Corvette Assembly Plant Begins a Three-Week Closure and Other Production News

As previously announced, the Corvette Assembly Plant will be closed for the next three weeks with no new Corvettes being assembled during the time period. Plant officials had previously stated that the closure was due to supplier parts restrictions.

The shut down of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant was actually scheduled to start today (Monday, September 28th), but we can see from Roger Kiel’s C8 Corvette Production Tracker that workers only worked during the first shift on Friday with just 82 units completed before knocking off early.

Affected weeks with no production scheduled include:

• September 28
• October 5
• October 12

Regular operations at the plant are expected to return on Monday, October 19th.

2027 Corvette Production Numbers

Chevrolet did kick off a new round of 2027 Corvette orders with allocations sent to dealers last Thursday. Dealers will get the actual constraint list when the GM Order Bank opens up for submissions this Thursday. We will check back later this week with any new updates and hopefully the full constraint list for your review.

With production halted for the next three weeks, it seems like a good time to take a look at the build and inventory numbers. Currently, Chevrolet has built 9,122 Corvettes for the 2027 model year. The current counts by model are:

2027 Corvette Production:
• 3,691 – Stingray
• 1,293 – Z06
• 3,204 – Grand Sport
• 285 – Grand Sport X
• 380 – ZR1
• 269 – ZR1X

9,122 – TOTAL

One other metric we’ve been watching closely has been the percentages of the two volume models, the Stingray and new Grand Sport. With nearly four months of production, both models have been remaining steady since the beginning of the model year with the Stingray running at approximately 40.4% while the Grand Sport is at 35.1% of production.

And finally, just before the plant closed, we did see production of the Grand Sport X finally catch up to that of the ZR1X with 285 units to the 269 units of the ZR1X. Once production starts back up, we should see the latest C8 model on the market eventually catch up and surpass the ZR1’s production numbers as well.

Current Dealership Inventory

While we never like to see the assembly plant closed for extended periods of time, one positive aspect is that it does help with reducing the current inventories of both Corvettes scheduled to ship from the plant, and the number of Corvettes available at dealers should also decline over the next few weeks.

Currently, the Chevrolet Live Inventory Tracker is showing 3,372 Corvettes on the ground. They include the last remaining units from the 2025 and 2026 model years, plus current 2027 units. Here is the current breakdown of Chevy’s Live Inventory from 9/28:
