Chevrolet’s weekly distribution updates to the Corvette Order Guide are always fun for us because we never know what surprise is going to be in it. Will it simply be another clarification or something new? Or will it contain bad news in which another option is sidelined with a footnote, “Not available at this time.”
Thankfully, for this week’s Distribution Guide update, we have something new to talk about. And for you owners out there striving for a one-of-one build, this race-inspired option will help you get there.
Chevrolet has added this new dealer installed option called “(LPO 5JS) Torch Red Mirror Caps, Genuine Corvette Accessory.” These are marked available across all models and all equipment groups. The only no-go’s are if you ordered the (ZYC) Carbon Flash Metallic-painted outside mirrors, (5JR) visible Carbon Fiber mirror covers, or if your exterior color is (G26) Sebring Orange, (G4Z) Roswell Green, (GPH) Red Mist. And lastly, you can’t order them if you already selected (GKZ) Torch Red.
We describe these optional outside mirror caps as “race-inspired” due to its similarity to the IMSA Corvette Z06 GT3.R racers. The IMSA GTD Pro class uses bright red mirrors and red windshield banners as part of their class identification system while the GTD cars are green. You can see them on the No.3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R racer:

For some reason, we do like this customization and can see some of the possibilities. For this post, I built the 2027 Admiral Blue Grand Sport with matching Bright Red hash marks and brake calipers. I attempted to add the Bright Red Mirror Caps, but I don’t see the new option listed and so I photoshopped one on the Grand Sport used as the main photo as well as this top-view photo here:
So what are your thoughts on this latest customization offered by Chevrolet for our Corvettes? I know some will think its lame, but it is just another way to for owners to do something different, and did I mention they are racing inspired?

I don’t think it’s lame to do this. I have a blade silver C8 with red brakes and was thinking of having my PPF guy wrap the mirrors in red. I’ll see if that is less expensive than ordering the GM accessory and pay for installation.
I actually have a GSx build waiting for allocation in Blade Silver with Adrenaline Red Interior so this would be an interesting option. when will the config offer this option ?

Chevrolet is always a day late & a dollar short. My new GSX ia Arctic White with Orange Full Length Racing strips & I had my mirrior caps covered in matching Orange (3M 2080) vinyl wrap & Chevrolets way of making an “X” on each end of the new 3 Stanchion High Wings ends also in the same Orange wrap. ‘Copy Cat Chevy’.
Guess it’s worth the money for 5 extra horsepower
What would be cool is if they paired the mirrors with the end caps on the rear wing (widebody)… Then it would be a legit IMSA GTDpro
It’s ok I guess. It looks a LOT better if it comes color coordinated with spoiler/wing caps and brake calipers–all in the same color.
That said, the C8 still remains “busy”. I would prefer options to destyle and demur the overall aesthetic–rather than more ways to spice it up.
To IPD. For me these would match my calipers. I do body color accents so the boomerang is subtle and also Blade Silver.
Not too busy from my perspective.
