[VIDEO] Doug DeMuro: The 2026 Chevy Corvette ZR1X Is America's Ultimate Supercar

Automotive reviewer Doug DeMuro has driven plenty of fast cars, but the way he introduces the new 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X leaves no doubt: this one is different.

“This is the new 2026 Chevy Corvette ZR1X,” he says, and its performance numbers “beat out basically any supercar in existence today.” It’s a bold claim, but the numbers back him up. The ZR1X produces a staggering 1,250 horsepower, rockets from 0–60 mph in just 1.7 seconds on a prepped surface, rips through the quarter mile in 8.7 seconds, and reaches a top speed north of 230 mph. Those numbers whip the Bugatti Veyron’s 9.5 seconds in the quarter @ 150 mph, he points out!

DeMuro calls the acceleration “laughably absurd,” and during his test drive he can’t help but react in real time. “Oh my god,” he blurts out after one highway pull. “That is insane. This car is so fast.” A moment later, he tries it again: “That’s wheelspin at 75 miles an hour in an all wheel drive car.”

The ZR1X achieves its numbers by pairing the ZR1’s twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 with a hybrid front axle system that adds electric power and all wheel drive. DeMuro notes that the hybrid hardware adds weight, but the added traction more than compensates. “The result,” he says, “is unbelievable speed from basically any RPM in any gear at any time.”

Beyond the raw performance, DeMuro spends time exploring the car’s quirks and features—everything from its carbon fiber aero pieces to its split window rear glass and Corvette Easter eggs. He highlights the updated interior, the steering wheel “Z” button that instantly activates a custom drive mode, and the launch control switch marked with a tiny rocket icon. “It’s their spaceship moment,” he jokes.

But the real story, he emphasizes, is how the ZR1X feels on the road. “This car is a total monster,” he says. “It’s so incredibly quick, incredibly eager, incredibly precise.” Even compared to the already ferocious ZR1, the hybrid assisted version feels like another step forward. “In that moment,” he says after another acceleration run, “this felt faster than the ZR1.”

By the end of the review, DeMuro places the ZR1X among the most thrilling machines of the modern era. “This car is amazing,” he concludes. “Truly one of the ultimate sports cars, supercars—whatever. It’s ultimate.”

For a Corvette lineage that has spent decades climbing toward supercar territory, the ZR1X looks like the moment it finally arrives without a doubt.

“This car is truly amazing,” Doug says, “and it’s up there with the best of the best. The 911 GT3 RS, the McLaren 765LT, the Mustang GTD, all of them. It deserves it as this is truly one of the most exciting cars in the modern era with a laughably absurd acceleration, crazily aggressive styling, and an overall driving experience that creates precisely the thrill you’re hoping for when you spend this much money on a special car.”

  1. Doug is still an idiot.

This is the same man whose take on the E-Ray was “What’s the point?” Suddenly he loves the AWD capability of the ZR1X, despite his own E-Ray review saying that a buyer should either “splurge for the Z06” or “save money and get the Stingray”.

    He’s a blithering fool.

  2. I didn’t watch the video (yet), but I’m guessing what he said was “THIS! is the new 2026 Chevy Corvette ZR1X”

  3. Doug says for the education of the video reviewers:
“In that moment,” he says after another acceleration run, “this felt faster than the ZR1.”
Ok, Doug for a moment there, I was thinking you might have been a graduate of a competent engineering college to get the honor of testing new Corvettes. Or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn next to the race track?
