He was searching for “something better” on the streets of Bakersfield — at 147 mph.

A driver channeling his inner Dwight Yoakam found out Tuesday that yellow Corvettes with black racing stripes aren’t above the law, even when they’re screaming down Panama Lane at nearly triple the speed limit.

California Highway Patrol officers clocked the C7 Corvette blazing past at 147 mph in a 55 zone—92 mph over the limit—before pulling the driver over east of Interstate 5. The result? A reckless driving charge, a towed ‘Vette, and presumably some serious second thoughts about those Bakersfield streets.

“I’ve worn blisters on my heels,” goes the classic country tune. This driver wore out his welcome instead.

CHP officials note that speed contributes to 40% of California’s fatal and injury crashes. Sometimes the search for something better starts with simply slowing down.

  1. I have been to Bakersfield. I spent 7 days there, one weekend. There is nothing to see or do there, so you usually want to get past Bakersfield as quick as you can. So I guess the driver of the C7 was just handling this problem in a little more radical way LOL

  2. Keep this up in CA and Newsome will ban Corvettes or make you pay a special tax for owning a fast car.

  3. Hey, Rc! Maybe he should. Though you’d be too cheap to pay the tax. Stay in Texas, pal!

  4. I would Glady pay the fast car tax if you were allowed to go fast. Roads would be marked for these cars only. Electronic readers would record entry to “Fast Roads”. Any driver that drives under 100MPH would be fined. ! Then I woke up.! California Dreaming.
