Another Corvette driver has been nabbed for speeding at more than double the limit on I-280 in Scott County, Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol posted a copy of the citation on its Facebook page, showing that the 2023 Corvette was going 144 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Why in such a hurry? Trooper Dodd says the driver told him he was “frustrated about work and another vehicle on the road.”

But, as the fellow with the radar gun points out: “Frustration is NEVER an excuse for speeding!”

At least as he pays his fine, the Corvette driver can take solace in the fact that he isn’t alone. The Iowa State Patrol says more than 1,000 drivers were ticketed for going 100 mph or faster on the state’s roads last year.

  1. Was he only ticketed for speed, what about reckless driving? Was the car impounded, I know in my state I wouldn’t be driving my Vette home.

  2. Something is not right here. If true and the cop was stationary there was no way he would be able to catch the Corvette. If the cop was going the other way even more so. More than one cop had to be involved otherwise the story is untrue.

  3. Really makes you think that speed limits are a means to compulsory fines and civil forfeitures; equally targeting the reckless and the capable. If we had quality driver’s training–perhaps we could have no-limit-highways like Europe…

  4. After his insurance company finishes with him he will want to sell the car.
I’ve been driving Vettes for 30 years and fortunately never got a speeding ticket.

  5. Herb – I also have been driving Corvettes for more than 40 years and have hit speeds over this ticket. Going fast doesn’t necessary mean reckless driving. In Iowa none the less. There are more corn or cows than there are people. The speed limit on their interstate should be at least 85 mph, maybe higher. Even a Hyundai can do 100mph no problem.
