Florida’s new super speeder law now has big consequences for those drivers with a heavy right foot. Exceeding the speed limit by 50 MPH or more, or are driving at 100 MPH or more is now a criminal offense with those first timers spending up to 30 days in jail.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office recently shared video to Facebook showing one of their traffic enforcement deputies pulling over the driver of a C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible after he was clocked at 107 MPH on the highway, and the driver’s excuse might just be one for the history books.
“I have an appointment with my barber.”
The driver, 57-year-old Michael Stanek of Welaka was arrested for dangerous excessive speeding. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center where he was book and then later released on a $150 bond.
The Facebook post reminds drivers of the new law: In case you didn’t know, driving in excess of the speed limit by 50 mph or driving at 100 mph or more makes you a super speeder in the state of Florida. It’s a criminal offense and will land you in jail.
The Sheriff’s office ends their post with some good advice, “So go the speed limit… even if you’re late for a haircut.”

that sucks , it just absolutely sukz……and they let %$*! cops ram people at higher speeds , but the Gov Gods have spoken….. i guess we need to rent a damn track , it would probably take a couple hundred of us , or maybe we could bribe a cop , oops i mean someone that works at a track to let me run a few laps….. the C8 is just so damn smooth , I can’t drive , Fifty FIVE…..:-) safe travels to All

Up to 30 days in jail? More than felons get in blue states.
The speed limit is 70 mph so he was doing 37 mph over the limit not 50 over the limit so he was speeding but not subject to the new law.!
Should have said “throttle body stuck. You know all the problems GM has with C8s, I am on the way to the dealer.”
Florida is a bad place, filled with bad people and governed by the crooked. It is also home of the most awful person in the World.
This law is just stupid. There should be exemption for Corvettes and maybe other high-performance vehicles. 107mph, you have got to be kidding. Not fast enough. Florida should have a lane specifically for a minimum speed of 100mph and give a ticket to anyone who drives slower. Maybe arrest them too.

Some suggestions: Escort Redline + Waze + Ticket clinic if needed. Perhaps use the cruise control set at 75 or 80 and you don’t need any of that stuff. Respect and share the road with others that may not be anticipating your closing speed of 30+ mph. Last, there are no speed limits at the dragstrip. Many other states where I lived had 100 mph laws where you go to jail. I always assumed Florida was the same. Never wanted to test that. So nothing changes for me.
When I lived in NJ, I was pulled over all the time for low speed infractions. It seemed like every 3rd person I met there was part of or related to multiple layers of law enforcement (township, county, state, borough – can’t recall them all). Several layers for every sleepy hollow… Law enforcement was much like some of their other big government “make-work, make-jobs” programs like: “you can’t pump gas yourself”. Then there was the PBA card racket for the “connected” making some more equal than others. NJ is a different world… Glad to be out of there.
Florida sure beats NJ and VA regarding the absence of bi-annual vehicle inspections too. That’s another unnecessary big-government “make-work” deal.
