A Corvette built for the track ended up somewhere far more dangerous Sunday night — a stretch of Wisconsin highway already known for serious wrecks — and the decision nearly doubled the speed limit.

Wisconsin authorities say a blue C7 Corvette was clocked at 120 mph on U.S. Highway 151 near County Highway YZ in Dodgeville, a corridor where 102 crashes have already been reported. Many of those have involved severe or fatal injuries.

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office didn’t sugarcoat the risk in its Facebook post, noting that at triple digit speeds, even the smallest variable becomes a threat.

“At 120 MPH, there is very little time to react if another vehicle changes lanes, traffic slows, an animal enters the roadway, or something unexpected happens,” the department wrote.

They added that one decision at that speed can carry life changing consequences — not just for the driver, but for everyone else sharing the road.

The sheriff’s office urged drivers to slow down, stay alert, and make safe decisions behind the wheel, especially along a highway already marked by more than a hundred crashes.

If the driver wanted to feel what a Corvette can really do, a race track would have been a far better choice than a dangerous stretch of public road.
