The STOP SALE Order that’s affecting deliveries of dealer’s 2025 Corvette Z06s has been going on now for two months, and it’s been a major inconvenience for everyone involved in the process. We especially feel bad for those customers whose new Corvettes have been unavailable as dealers wait for the new spilled fuel diverters that should alleviate the possibility of the cars catching on fire, and that’s the real goal here is making the cars safer.
The waiting process would be much easier if we getting regular communications from General Motors regarding the fix. They gave us an official statement back on September 12th and then referred us back to it whenever we had some questions. That previous statement was:
“GM has developed the recall remedy (an insert / shield to divert spilled fuel) and is working to quickly source production and deliver it to dealers. When parts are available, GM will inform affected vehicle owners of remedy availability and encourage them to make appointments with their local dealerships. In the meantime, vehicle owners can visit gm.com/service (https://experience.gm.com/ownercenter/recalls?vin=) and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for recall information.”
Our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com have also been trying to get more out of the General, and yesterday they managed to get this statement on the process for installing the new part. Attributed to a GM Spokesperson, “The repair of the fuel filler recall involves one part. It can be dealer accomplished without the need for fender removal.”
Another MECF member chimed in after claiming to talk with Vehicle Chief Engineer Josh Holder at Petit Le Mans a couple weeks back, and he was told that the replacement is a five-minute fix: “It is a replacement for the plastic surround around the fuel fill pipe. He stated you remove the existing part by popping it out and install the replacement part.”
In our discussions with GM on this, it was explained to us that the new spilled fuel diverter seals up the fuel filler compartment, so that any spilled fuel would be diverted to the drain hole and tube, which still exits behind the panel.
As for getting the parts to dealers, we’ve heard they could be shipping to dealers later this week. We expect to get confirmations from dealers once that happens as they will want to move fast to get any impacted Stop Sale cars out the door (and off their floorplan). Chevrolet will then send out its second letter to those impacted with news that owners can now make appointments to have the new fuel filler shield installed.
Hopefully, this will all be in our rearview windows sooner rather than later. If you have heard from your dealers or someone else connected that the parts have been received, please let us know!

I “purchased” my new Z06 convertible August 22, only hours after the recall hit. As we were wrapping it up, another rep came over and said” You know, we can’t sell you this car.” I replied “Isn’t that what you do here?”
He explained the recall issue and I’ve been waiting two full months, checking every new source every day. Yesterday, my rep at Tom Gibbs Chevrolet in Flagler Beach, FL said they’ve received a few parts and fixed a few owner vehicles. This is info from a sales rep so it’s not visually confirmed by me but anyway, the article to which my comment is attached is finally very encouraging. C’mon GM, I want my car!
Spending a pile of currency to go through this s show is crazy. However Mary will still get her large year end bonus.
I was just told i can finally pick up my z06 from the stop sale hold, tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
I’m at the dealership right now picking mine up. Stop sale was August 21 and I made the deal August 22… missed driving away by only a few business hours. Longest possible wait but I’m sure it will be worth it.
