The joke about only showing off the rear of a Corvette because people only see the taillights is alive and well in this official Instagram post from the General Motors Design Team.
The Design Team once again has tongues wagging and while the focus may have been on what may or may not be a next generation Camaro sketch, it was the bold Corvette design embedded in another post that caught our attention.
The GeneralMotorsDesign Instagram page was showing off what they are calling their Tomorrow’s Vision Today exhibit which has an almost museum feel about it. On the walls are various sketches of vehicles and designs of components like steering wheels.
GM Authority was one of the sites discussing the possible Camaro sketch that is hanging from the ceiling, although someone else suggested it was a previous Buick rendering. Either way, it’s one of those bold designs with oversized wheels that explores an edgy look, but it’s pretty clear to us that it’s not something remotely looking like it would be produced in numbers.

But it was on the previous post for the Tomorrow’s Vision Today theme where we saw the widebody booty of a mid-engine sports car and boy did that ever catch our attention!
The design has many hallmarks of the C8 Corvette with the two outboard vents on each side of the fascia, and it has what appears to be a quad-center exhaust set-up. The rear engine bay window is angled towards the bottom of the hatch. And just like the production C8 Corvettes, at the center top appears to be the rear view camera mirror.

One of the rumors of the upcoming C9 generation is that it will be more evolutionary change along the lines of the updates from the C5 to the C6 Corvette as opposed to being another clean sheet design like the C8 was. That wide rear end shows some of the possibilities for the upcoming generation that may even include active aero.

I’m number 5 on my dealer’s list for the C9. I cancelled an order for a 2026 Eray as I felt it was too close to the C9.
I won’t lie. I liked the CX concept, but will always have fun with my ’23!
I hope it won’t look like that!

LOL @ Michael. C9 will not happen before 2029 at the earliest. Enjoy being without a Corvette for the next 3+ years. And the C9 SR will not have AWD.
