The 8th generation Corvette is in full swing yet rumors are already swirling about the next generation of America’s sports car. Most of us are still trying to process the 2025 ZR1 and its 1,064hp, while Tuesday the crew at Autoline dropped this nugget about the potential next version of the Corvette.

According to their sources, we could be seeing an electric Corvette Stingray in June of 2029. That’ll be followed up by a Corvette SUV in June of 2030. More interestingly, they say that both cars will be made at General Motors’ Lansing Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan.

Naturally, details are few at this point so we don’t know what this could mean long term for the Bowling Green plant. Will there be gas and hybrid C8 Corvettes on dealer lots alongside these rumored electric variants? Is this a hint about the potential demise of the C8 generation? We’ve already seen GM double dip on electrics with the Escalade and Equinox offering both gas and electric models so maybe we’ll see that with Corvette as well. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Corvette news leads off the August 27th edition of Autoline Daily below:

  1. All I know is that GM has invested a lot of money in a new Chevy small block that has yet to come out.

  2. Nothing is more exciting than hearing the powerful roar of an All American electric vehicle going down the road. My neighbor’s Tesla sounds like my mothers 1950’s Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner.

  3. My neighbor across the street owns a Tesla Model 3. That car sounds like something weird from another planet every time I see and hear them leave in it. Now that we have the big bad ZR1 I don’t think there needs to be anymore variants of the C8. What the Corvette needs next is an all new Corvette but I damn sure hope it’s not all electric.

  4. Good luck to Tesla in their restraint of trade action against states who restrict direct sales, but win or lose, those same states will surely be around with their greedy hands out to collect sales tax.

  5. Unless or until there is a law preventing the sale of vehicles with ICE in my humble opinion an ICE Corvette will be with us for quite some time. Hybrid perhaps as the only, which the eray is already established as a great Corvette.
Governments all including ours can only push so far to drive the market.
I’ve got nothing against EVs but the cost to much, weight to much and that weight is a big factor in collision with other vehicles.
A lighter, smaller DOHC 4 valve hybrid Corvette as a C9.

  6. Electric vehicles are transforming the mobility sector to an extent not seen since the introduction of the Model T Ford. Public acceptance of EVs-once uncertain-has reached a “tipping point” and will continue to grow as consumers seek more economical, environmentally-friendly transport options.

    Thanks,
    Ray
