Corvettes for Sale: 1972 Corvette Convertible with Matching Numbers 350 ci V8

A chrome-bumper C3 Corvette remains one of the most recognizable and most beautiful cars ever built.

At least in the eyes of many enthusiasts.

One such example – a 1972 convertible – is currently being offered on Craigslist out of the Mendocino, California area with an asking price of $24,500.

The car is described as “all correct and original,” including the numbers-matching 350/255 horsepower V8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, and 3:08 rear differential. It also has power steering and a tilt-telescopic steering wheel.

About the only non-original feature of this Stingray is the repaint in a non-1972 shade of dark purple, but the new color pairs well with the white soft top that’s described as being “in very good condition.”

Only six photos are included on the listing, and we wish there were a few shots of the engine, undercarriage, and interior. We are reassured, however, that all the gauges are functional, including the usually temperamental clock.

In case you don’t want the car, the seller has a new set of ceramic coated Hooker headers and side pipes with gaskets and hardware (presumably for a C3 Corvette) for $1,400 as well as a C3 LT1/454 hood for $700.

  1. Something funny here, no mention that the 255hp 350 is a LT1. Also, why is the LT1 hood being sold separately? AND, the price is too low for a matching numbers LT1?????

  2. I’m 99.5% certain that this is a car that we owned for 2 or 3 years. We purchased a ’68 L71 roadster and gave this car plus a lot of cash to get it. If it is the car we owned, which I’m almost certain because the person we traded it to lived in Santa Rosa. Again, if it’s that car it’s got great bones, no rust, ran perfectly, and I had the brakes and much of the suspension set up so that we could use it for whatever we wanted. I believe the New owner put a clutch in it at several months after he took it in trade. They color. The car was done several years before I got it and it’s very similar to the dark Rose metallic at C7s had for a little while. If it’s the car we had, is well worth the money. The paint isn’t perfect but it’s a great driving and very nice car.

  3. I forgot to mention. If it’s the car we owned, it’s the base 350 with a 4-speed. It’s not an LT1 car and there must be some misunderstanding there.

  4. I had a 1972 chrome bumpers I loved it it was yellow paid $5600 brand new I would love to find one. I have an 1985 coupe with 25,000 actual miles and a 1981 Teal convertible with the hard top that I would sell.
