A Torch Red C6 Corvette Grand Sport convertible became the center of an unexpected drug bust in Indian River County, Florida this week. According to the sheriff’s office, the eye-catching sports car wasn’t just turning heads on State Road 60. It was drawing complaints.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said deputies stopped the Corvette on Thursday after receiving a tip about suspected drug sales along the SR 60 corridor. What they found inside the sleek two-seater was far from typical cruiser day cargo.
A search of the car uncovered more than 20 grams of individually packaged marijuana, along with packaging materials, a digital scale, and a Glock pistol. Deputies arrested the driver, 79-year-old Ronald Theriault, who, according to the sheriff’s office, admitted the marijuana was his and acknowledged that he sells it.
The agency said the stop wasn’t random. They had received multiple complaints about alleged drug activity involving Theriault in the area. With Thursday’s arrest, deputies seized the Corvette as part of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office emphasized its stance in a statement posted to Facebook:
“No matter how small the amount is, the IRCSO has zero tolerance for drug activity in our community.”
They encouraged residents to report suspicious behavior, adding that tips can be submitted directly to the sheriff’s office or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
