Could it be that we are about to get an official Nürburgring lap time for the new 2025 Corvette ZR1X? The subject has been off-limits with the Corvette Team since forever, when any question would be met with the standard “we are there to test and not set lap times,” but perhaps recent two recent events have turned the tide.
While I say two reasons, I could probably take it further. The first I believe is GM President Mark Reuss driving the ZR1 to 233 mph for its high speed test run at Papenburg, Germany. A trip like that would make anyone see the light! Second would be the Ford Mustang breaking the seven-minute barrier 850 hp GTD. Not only does it get under our skin that the Mustang was first, but the GTD is built by Multimatic in Canada, so to say it’s the first AMERICAN car to break the sub-seven-minute lap time is a point I’m ready to argue against.
I would say one other reason for the change of heart comes from the fact that we are not talking about spending crazy money to rent the racetrack for a $70,000 Stingray. You’re trying to reach buyers willing to put down over $200,000 for a Chevy…a Chevy that is more than ready to punch way above its price class and the people at GM finally understand that. A great ‘Ring time is all the marketing you need for the car.
GM posted this teaser to Instagram on Saturday, saying “Fast as green hell. #Corvette #Nurburgring” with Green Hell being one of the more colorful nicknames for the 12.9 mile German track. The video features the Competition Yellow ZR1X Coupe as its heading down a straight and into a left hand corner. The video fades to black with just the cross-flags logo displayed.
There was no time frame listed on when a time might drop, so we now must keep checking back daily on the official Corvette Instagram page. We do have Independance Day coming up this week so that would be a great day to unveil it. However, some are making the leap of since the teaser was released on June 28th, perhaps the time is 6:28 around the Green Hell? I’d be very happy with that!
One of observations is that the Instagram post doesn’t say which Corvette is “fast as green hell,” but recent spy photos show the Competition Yellow C8 at the Nürburgring is the ZR1X. In addition to another ZR1X in Hysteria Purple, Chevy also brought two ZR1s (Black and Red), and two Z06s (Black and Yellow). While the teaser shows the ZR1X, we’re hoping this visit could be the gift that gives us lap times for all three high performance models.
These are exciting times to be a Corvette fan!

ZR1 was 5 seconds faster than the prior production car record at Road America – Porsche GT3 @ 2:08
That Porsche did a 6:44 at the Ring.
So, the Vette should be under 6:40 easily
I would be interested to see where the zr1x land as well. The only caveat of the Road America comparison is that it is a low down force, high horsepower track. NASCAR teams set their cars with low down force, high hp package here. This is the exact opposite to the 3rs which has only half of the zr1 while generating way more down force (but somewhat useless at RA). The long straights really expose this weakness for the 3rs.
I would also imagine the mor natural competitor to the zr1 /x would be the upcoming 2 rs?
Road America isn’t the Ring. Howd the z06 do at Road America and the Ring? Over 20 seconds slower than the GT3RS with the same driver 😂
Would love it if Tony Roma released an official time sub 7 for the Z06 for the EU market and then tell to do the math on the ZR1X
🙂
No news…. is not good news on the vettes times….
I think 4th of July would be a good day to release the results don’t y’all?
Doubtful you’d need to do much marketing for the ZR1X. The first batch are likely already ordered, regardless of price, with a waiting line behind them.
