[SPIED] Corvette Grand Sport Mule with a Side Rocker Winglet

Remember this winglet?

CorvetteBlogger readers may remember that this winglet was first spotted back in February during an official photo shoot for the Grand Sport out in California. That was the first time that we saw the 2027 Grand Sport undisguised and in full regalia including the Admiral Blue exterior with the White racing strip and two red hashmark appearing on the rear of the car.

I was recently thinking about that photo shoot and the one thing that has kind of bothered me about it is that the Admiral Blue Grand Sport spotted by the Instagram user showed the winglet on the side rocker panel. Once the official reveal happened, it was nowhere to be seen, and we wondered if it was just a figment of our imaginations or perhaps the shadows were playing tricks with us. Here was the enhanced version from that post:

The reason I bring this up is because we got a fresh look at this winglet as a possible new aero accessory for the Grand Sport/Grand Sport X thanks to the photos this Black GS mule taken during the NCM Bash.

This morning I was talking to a new E-Ray owner when he casually mentions a Black “EX”-vin test mule that he spotted during the NCM Bash. The car was parked in the front lot away from the Corvette show, and our friend happened to take notice of the familiar large red kill switch mounted on the dash and so he grabbed these photos.

That engineering car looks like it ran through some foul weather during its trip to Bowling Green, and the dirty black paint does help to camouflage the details on the close-up photos. However, those last photos provide a good look at the aero accessory. It appears to start under the side rocker and then the winglet raises from the end of the side rocker. The structure appears to create a channel where air would pass between the winglet and the side of the car. The design is somewhat reminiscent of the 5VM/5V8 carbon fiber ground effects that were popular in the C8 Stingray’s early years.

The rest of the car is outfitted with the base Grand Sport aero which includes the front chin splitter and the longer side rockers. It also has the Gloss Black Grand Sport wheels, and I believe those are the new low-dust brakes because of their size. The mule also has a pair of those testing ports on the rear.

Chevrolet has already started orders for the 2027 Grand Sport and production is expected to start up on the week of June 8th. Chevy is staggering the introduction of the Grand Sport models with production of the Grand Sport X expected to start sometime in Third Quarter.

Does seeing this winglet on a Grand Sport mule signify that there are still some more surprises in store for the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X? Looks like it to us!
