[ACCIDENT] C6 Corvette Driver Extremely Lucky to Walk Away After Car Goes Under a Guardrail

The 22-year-old driver of this red C6 Corvette Z06 coupe was somehow able to get himself out of the car without injuries after crashing underneath a center-media guardrail during a heavy downpour Saturday.

The crash happened at 4:49 p.m. on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley, N.Y.

State Police said the driver, Mamadou Camara, managed to climb out of the mangled Corvette on his own after the car slid beneath the center median guardrail and became wedged there. Photos released by first responders show the rail resting on top of the driver’s door and arcing upward across the cockpit — a twisted geometry that may have given Camara just enough space to escape through the passenger side. In a cabin as tight as a Corvette’s, simply being able to move from one side to the other was remarkable.

Members of the Putnam Valley Fire Department, the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a Putnam Empress paramedic crew arrived within minutes. They secured the scene, evaluated Camara, and transported him to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Putnam Valley Fire Chief Vito Rizzi used the incident as a reminder of two simple truths:

“Wet roads are slick roads, and seatbelts save lives.”

The department echoed that message in a Facebook post summarizing the response: crews were dispatched at 16:49, found the driver already self extricated, and quickly took control of the scene. Their closing note was clear:

“Stay alert and drive safe.”

Given the condition of the Corvette — crushed, pinned, and the cockpit crushed in half — the fact that Camara walked away is nothing short of miraculous.
