Well, this is one way to give your classic Corvette a bath – just maybe not the best way.
The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for the driver of this dark gray “luxury” late-C3 Corvette that ran into a fire hydrant, sending water shooting into the street.
They say the driver ran from the scene after the one-vehicle crash, which happened in LA’s Fairfax neighborhood around 11 p.m. Friday on West Beverly Boulevard near the Grove shopping mall.
The Corvette suffered extensive damage to the front end after apparently also running into a utility pole close to the fire hydrant. Video from the scene on KTLA5 News shows the vintage ride also had the T-tops out and judging from the drops of water on the back hatch glass, it’s possible the car suffered some water damage to the interior.
No official word from the LAPD, but a couple of scenarios are that someone may have been taking the “hot” Corvette for a joyride and wound up giving it a “cold” bath instead, or they could have been trying to avoid getting a DUI.

Judging by that first picture the rear end doesn’t look too healthy either.
That’s messed up! First time I’ve ever seen a Corvette referred to as a “luxury car”.
Everybody drives drunk in Southern California. Nothing is walkable and there is no public transportation. DUI has become a massive cottage industry down there.
Thought LA had no water in the their fire hydrants.
