Nearly 20 years ago, this 1972 Corvette LT1 received an NCRS Top Flight award, then underwent a frame-off restoration that earned it another prestigious award in June 2006 – a Bloomington Gold certificate.
Now, the seller is offering this Elkhart Green beauty for sale on Bring a Trailer, where the current bid is $26,000, with six days left in the auction.
The legendary LT1, of course, first came on the scene in 1970 with 350 cubic inches and 370 horsepower, but by the time this ’72 was built, the compression ratio had been lowered and the horsepower rating changed from gross to net so the horsepower dropped to 255.
Still, the small-block LT1 engine blended power, higher-revving, and handling that contrasted with the brute force of the big-block 454s. It required a four-speed manual transmission and 4.11:1 gears.
This car received a total restoration that was completed in 2006, including repainting the frame and body, installing a new black vinyl interior, and repainting and restoring various parts.
It still looks to be nearly as nice after almost 20 years, though at first glance we did notice a few chips on the edge of the driver’s door that need to be touched up.
This Stingray originally listed for $6,426.40 – with the LT1 engine eating up $470 of that total, along with $173 for the AM/FM Pushbutton Radio, $46 for power brakes, $113 for power steering, and $12 for Performance Axle Ratio.
Included with the sale are a window sticker, tank sticker, NCRS awards, service records, car cover, dyno sheet, photos documenting the restoration, and a clean New Jersey title.
