The crew over at Horsepower Depot are at it again with their insane L88 Corvettes. This time they’re off to Edgewater Motorsports Park in Cleves, Ohio for the Plates and 28’s event.
Long time readers will recognize both cars as we’ve featured them here before. Both cars consistently run in the 9’s in the FAST series for factory appearing cars on stock tires. Given that neither Corvette has license plates nor 28” tires, they didn’t fit into any of the classes. However, they were able to run a number of exhibition passes demonstrating just what a tuned L88 can do.
Over the course of the day, the team makes several runs. At one point the C2 runs a 9.4s to the C3’s 9.5s with both cars topping 146mph in the ¼ mile. Later, they switch to slicks and drag radials for some evening runs.
Unfortunately, the C3 isn’t able to make it back out due to a broken wheel stud. That mean 1967 had no issues, though, and put down a stout 9.29 second pass at 145mph.
We love watching and hearing these beasts run down the track. Those cars launch hard! Just check out how high those front ends point when they stomp on the loud pedal. Next time you’re at the track keep an eye out for the Horsepower Depot team and their killer L88 tribute Corvettes!

Wow — those are a couple of seriously fast factory appearing vintage Corvettes! Incredible to see them hitting mid to low 9s!
For the longest time a black/red ’69 Coupe with factory sidepipes, just like the father’s in this video, was my #1 dream Corvette. Being a bit sentimental, the fact that I learned to drive in a black ’69 Impala may have had some infuence on that leaning. However, eventually that became my #2 choice when I later decided that my#1 dream Corvette just HAD to be a C2.

This is really cool. I remember back in the day the BBC pretty much ruled the street slapping the shit out of Hemi’s and Big block Fords. High HP small blocks kicked ass too. We had a couple of LS6 Chevelles and two guys that had L88 67’s. They were wild and nasty, awesome. We did have a single 69′ I think Super Stock AMX. That sob hauled ass but was beat to hell lol. So much for a tuned Demon 170.Ya I agree with Robert about this video debacle, WTF??
