Back in November at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, CorvetteBlogger reader Donny Brass introduced us to Jordan Pennington. Jordan and his dad, Terry, spend much of their time scorching the quarter mile in the FAST Series. Jordan drives a 1969 Camaro and Terry pilots this black 1969 L88 Corvette.

If you’re not familiar with the FAST Series, the premise is simple. The cars must be Factory Appearing and run on Stock Tires. That’s pretty much it. Internal and safety mods are ok as long as the car still retains a stock appearance. The event schedule runs from May through October and they race at tracks in Michigan, Indiana, and more. Check out FASTdrags.com for more info this unique series.

In the video below, Jordan Pennington takes us for a walk around of his dad’s 1969 L88 Corvette. The wild C3 has run as fast as 9.33s @ 146mph. It claimed 1st and 5th places on the 2021 FAST ET Record List. Now that’s moving on old school bias ply tires!

The 14-minute video is set among and arsenal of automotive jewelry. Check out some of the beauties on the lifts behind Jordan and keep an eye out for his orange Camaro as well. Jordan begins by talking about the FAST Series and then we get a peek under the hood of the C3. We know you’re all wondering and, no, this is not a factory L88. It’s a built big block punched out to 560 cubes and puts down 720 RWHP. From there he goes on to tell us about how they’ve ported the intake and exhaust manifolds to add more ponies. Interestingly he says that stock exhaust manifolds will cost you about 100hp. A John Kilgore Turbo 400 transmission is responsible for getting all that power to the ground. It’s run as quick as 1.42s in the 60ft. Jordan states better shocks would make it even faster.

Inside, the red interior is pretty much standard C3 fare, save for the 8 point cage, the monster tach, and the Holley display unit. You’ll note the clean install which preserves the factory seats and dash.

Later, Jordan takes us around back where he talks about the Coker Wide Oval tires and how they prep them for the track. Sign us up to help with the next batch of burnouts.

The suspension is largely stock including the factory transverse leaf spring and trailing arms. The 4.10 rear end is a beefed up 12-bolt unit rear as are the output shafts and axles. Even the stock springs remain in place.

Out back, a 3-gallon fuel cell sits where the stock tank used to be. The custom lines running up to the engine are all neatly hidden to retain the stock appearance. Finally, he points out the standard 2.5 exhaust that exhales through Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers at the factory locations. A great cold start puts the exclamation point Jordan’s walkaround.

This a great video about a cool Corvette. Video of the car making track passes are dropped in throughout so you can see just what this thing is capable of.
