With the prices of chrome-bumper C3s inching upwards, it’s refreshing to see a ’71 Corvette T-top coupe on eBay with a “Buy It Now” price less than $13,000.

Indeed, in an eBay auction that ends Thursday, the highest bid is only $10,400, shy of the “Buy It Now” price of $12,900.

The first thing a potential buyer will notice about this vintage Stingray is its weak Classic White paint, but a closer inspection reveals a lot of potential.

The seller, for example, points out that the frame and birdcage are “very clean,” and the body is rated “excellent” in his estimation.

Mechanically, the original matching-numbers 350/270 horsepower engine is still in place and even sports a recently rebuilt carburetor. Now, the car “runs great,” according to the listing.

Inside, the black vinyl seats, door panels, and dash appear to be in good enough condition, with no visible damage, though the photos don’t give a really complete look. The speedometer and tachometer still work, but some of the smaller gauges don’t. The gas gauge is functional, and the car reportedly has a new gas tank and sending unit, along with several new bushings installed underneath.

The headlights don’t pop up, but the seller says it sounds like a vacuum leak could be the cause. Other problem areas include the air conditioning, said to be “complete” but non-functional at the moment, and the tilt-telescopic steering wheel is “a little loose.”

Despite its lackluster appearance, the seller believes he’s offering “a very solid car to restore or drive as is.” Would you agree with that assessment?

  1. I don’t agree with the seller on drive as is. I would get away from the poor white paint and repaint it a pretty Corvette color, add 18/19 Forgeline wheels and cosmetically restore it and fix everything that needs repair. Then I would drive the hell out of it!

  2. Price on this vette is too high. Engine compartment needs much work and then all rubber parts would need replacing. And it’s a t-top not a convertible so that drops the price point.
