One of the most iconic car designs ever has to be the chrome-bumper third-generation Corvettes of the late 1960s.

Enthusiasts went crazy over the now-familiar Coke-bottle design when it debuted in 1968, and some 9,936 coupes would leave the St. Louis factory, including this Safari Yellow Stingray coupe with the then-newfangled T-tops.

After enjoying the car for more than five years, the owner has decided to part with this beauty through an eBay auction out of Fenton, Michigan.

If you’re the impatient type, you can “Buy It Now” for $23,000, or you can go the other route and place a bid and bide your time. So far, five bids have climbed to $20,299, with five days to go.

While the seller promotes the car as being “original,” we think it’s likely to have undergone some sort of restoration before he ever bought it, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Indeed, he says this Corvette is ready for the show circuit right now, and photos with the listing would tend to support that optimistic assessment.

The interior is rated as excellent – from the seats and door panels, to the dash, carpet and headliner. Ditto for the undercarriage, according to the owner.

The numbers-matching 327/300 V8 engine is still under the hood (that’s been replaced at some point by a big-block hood), mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.

Other features include power steering, power brakes, removable rear glass, Rally wheels, and aftermarket stereo radio/cassette.

The seller says everything is still in proper working order after 56 years, other than the windshield wipers that are said to misfire intermittently.

When you get right down to it, he seems very confident of this Corvette’s capabilities, concluding “the car starts, runs, drives, shifts, brakes, handles and sounds excellent.”

  1. Based on the pics this 68 looks better than a lot of them for sale but some owners will tell you anything to sugarcoat the condition of the car they’re trying to sell.
