[VIDEO] GM President Mark Reuss Takes the 2025 Corvette ZR1 to Jay Leno's Garage

Join car enthusiast/comedian Jay Leno as he gets an up-close look at the 2025 Corvette ZR1 with the enthusiastic help of General Motors President Mark Reuss.

Mark even brings along a family heirloom – his late father Lloyd Reuss’ 1967 427 Sting Ray with a Powerglide automatic transmission (that he had helped engineer back in the day before he became GM president, too).

But the star of this show for many will be the Competition Yellow ZR1, the very one that Mark had driven when the car was introduced in July. Today, the two men are standing with it in the middle of Jay’s garage, surrounded by many of his own vintage classics.

Recently introduced as a 2025 model, the ZR1 has turned heads around the world with its 1,064-horsepower, twin-turbo DOHC flat-plane crank engine – said to be the most powerful V8 ever produced by an American automaker.

Jay tries to get a price tag out of Mark, suggesting to the GM leader that at $200,000, it matches the performance of foreign exotics costing nearly $3 million. Ever true to the GM creed, however, Mark doesn’t spill the beans on what it will actually cost to buy a ZR1 next year – at least what the MSRP will be, only suggesting that it will be “true to Corvette tradition – aspirational but attainable” and “the best amount of horsepower per buck out there.”

But Reuss does say that he “couldn’t be more proud” of the job done by the car’s engineers and the people who will build the new ZR1 at Chevy’s plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, pointing out in particular the silhouette on the back glass that honors recently retired chief engineer Tadge Juechter.

He also explains that the new LT7 engine was possible because of the mid-engine placement that allowed room for the twin turbochargers instead of the superchargers required in front-engine Corvettes.

While Mark spends a lot of time talking about various engineering aspects of the new ZR1, even he learns a lesson when Jay explains how speed limits were originally determined by asking ordinary folks at what speed they first became uncomfortable when riding.

And speaking of riding, at the end of the video, Jay and Mark take the ZR1 out on the road but for embargo reasons, they can’t share that footage today. Instead, we have to settle for video of the yellow car being driven at more than 200 miles per hour on the track.

  1. Mark Reuss on the ZR1 MSRP: “true to Corvette tradition – aspirational but attainable”. What a joke.

  2. It will be hard to get one the first year for less than $300K. Just watch the greedy dealers put the first ones up for auction.
