Corvette Order Constraints for the April 18th Ordering Cycle

It’s Thursday and that means we are in the midst of yet another Corvette order cycle. Dealers got their allocations (or estimated shipments) last week which contained only Stingrays and Z06s, and today the order banks opened up for them to match those allocations to customer orders and submit them to General Motors. Many dealers who do not have customers still lined up are still accepting those allocations and placing dealer stock orders for inventory.

Along with the order bank opening up, dealers also received the list of constraints for this cycle. These days, that list is short and only impacting Stingray ordering. Z06 buyers can order anything on the menu as there are zero constraints affecting the supercar.

The Stingray constraints contain the usual suspects plus something new! These constraints come from a top tier dealer, and we have listed the nationwide quantities. Smaller dealers will have similar constraints with smaller quantities available. The Z51 vs Base looks to be split 55% vs 45% with Chevy telling dealers specifically how many they can order.

Stingray:

• Q9I Gloss Black 20-Spoke Wheels – limited availability – 42 available nationwide
• 5ZU Painted High Wing – 0
• Z51 vs Non Z51 – 231 / 188
• 1LT Trim Package – 84 available nationwide

GM issues constraints because the parts are not available, or GM needs to limit or slow down a particular option to maintain sufficient quantities. That second point is what I think about the ongoing Z51 vs Non Z51 split.

So I find it interesting that the 1LT trim package is now on constraint. We know from the yearly production stats that most customer cars are ordered with the 2LT or 3LT trim packages. However, many dealers ordering for stock will often order the 1LTs as a value leader. For the 1LT Trim Package to now be constrained, we are wondering if dealers caused or were causing a run on the 1LT trim package that now forces GM to limit orders until those quantities return?

Of course, the cynic in me could also say that GM is limited the 1LTs to force these dealers to order the more expensive trim packages because they make a higher return on those cars. But they would never do that, right? Right!?

These Corvette ordering cycles have been running every two weeks and we expect another round of allocations for next Thursday, which is also the start of the Michelin NCM Bash. The ordering for that cycle will happen in the first week of May. Unless Chevy is planning on extending the 2024 model year further into summer, there is probably only a couple more opportunities to place an order for a 2024 Corvette Stingray or Z06. As for the E-Ray, that is still a complete unknown at this time.
