Corvette Production Update for February 2024

Wow, check out this recent pic of the new Corvettes ready to ship at the Corvette Assembly Plant! I thought at first there was snow on the ground, but no, those are brand new Corvettes in their transport covers ready to be sent to dealers for customer delivery. With the plant working a bunch of additional overtime during much of the month, perhaps Jack Cooper Transport is having a little trouble keeping up.

As March is here (in like a lion as I remember), now is a good time to recap some of the production notes and see where we are. FYI, we use Roger Kiel’s Unofficial Production Estimate for these conversations. You have to be a member of the Facebook Group C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) to view.

We’ve been seeing some great production numbers from the Corvette assembly Plant with all three models being built in decent quantities. Earlier in the month we saw some overtime hours come into play, and just this week we had several days of more than 200 produced. The E-Rays are still ramping up and we saw they built 30 during the week of Feb 19th, however this week we only see 15 built through Thursday. I too would love to see these take off but apparently it’s going to take some additional time before they start building them in earnest quantities.

Speaking of quantities, I looked at the beginning and ending VINs from Rogers report and came up with 4,186 new Corvettes assembled during February. That breaks down to approximately 3,299 Corvette Stingrays, 802 Z06s, and 85 E-Rays.

Earlier this week we shared the milestone of the Z06 surpassing 4,000 units for the 2024 model year. In fact, the ending VIN for February 29th was 4,111. After several days last week of producing zero Z06s, they’ve regained their form and are averaging around 44 units over the last three days.

We believe the next allocations will happen again this Thursday, March 7th, with Constraints and the order books opening on Thursday, March 14th.

  1. Personally, I would be surprised if the e-ray numbers really pick-up much. It’s demand driven and I’m wondering how many people want a combination of electric and gas powered. I’m a Stingray owner, and if I wanted to ramp up power, I would go with a Z06 or a fully electric model that would top the speed of fully electric competitors. Just my opinion.

  2. I was initially skeptical of the E-Ray. But the Jay Leno YouTube video convinced me that they have some desirable characteristics. Passing power is tremendous and closer to instantaneous than a simpler normally aspirated car. Also pointed out in the video is that the E-Ray is “probably the most complex consumer product that you can buy today”. To me that’s not a good selling point as more complexity needs to also bring with it – – better reliability. But it is what it is. I am still waiting for a Z06, but if it holds up well, the E-Ray won’t be a bad car at all. I think a wise E-Ray buyer would wait a couple of years. Many of us remember when GM installed diesel engines in some car lines…

  3. My Z06 is in that batch of cars somewhere, been stuck at 3800 status for 3 weeks now. They won’t say why, probably waiting on a part.

  4. Not to mention a couple of hundred, Canadian C8’s of all types waiting for GM to address the Day Time Running Light issues.
No more Canadian cars produced since February 13th due to this issue as well a Canadian dealers cannot PDI any of them currently on their lots.
