General Motors Surpasses 4,000 Z06s Produced for the 2024 Model Year

Here’s a quick update on production of the 2024 Corvette Z06 which has had us concerned over the last week, but all appears to be good now!

It almost never fails that I’ll be talking about something good happening with Corvette production only to see my brilliant analysis fall apart almost the very next day. That happened two weeks ago during my stint on the CORVETTE TODAY Podcast where I said the following:

The Z06 is doing fantastic, with only one day this month (February) did they produced less than 50 cars over the two shifts (and on that day they did 49 cars). We counted 536 new Z06s built February 1st through the 14th, and hopefully that trend continues now that we are seeing most options still available on these upcoming orders.”

That episode went live the week of Monday, February 19th and Chevrolet would end up producing just 21 Z06s during that week with the first 20 produced on 2/19. I say we were getting concerned as three consecutive days passed without any Z06s coming off the line, but workers did manage a few E-Rays with 30 built during the same week. You could say it was the first time that E-Ray production surpassed the Z06 for the week.

Another reason we’ve been worrying about Z06 production is because Chevrolet appears to be allocating a lot more Stingrays. Many of those most recent Stingrays orders placed last week jumped immediately to 3100 status following submission, as if Chevy suddenly needed to quickly increase the number of Stingrays in the pipeline.

However, it does appear we are back to some sort of sanity as workers assembled 41 Z06s on Tuesday, February 27th. Also notable is that according to Roger Kiel’s unofficial production estimates, plant workers assembled the 4,000th Z06 for the 2024 model year. To give you an idea of how far ahead we are running from 2023’s numbers, the plant didn’t surpass 4,000 Z06 VINs until the end of July 2023. In both years, the Z06s started during the month of October.

If that stat doesn’t shock you, how about now there are over 10,000 Corvette Z06s produced between the two model years! GM produced 6,412 Z06s in 2023 and now we have the 4,020 so far for 2024.

As we like to say, let’s hope this trend continues, but if you hear me on the podcast next week downplaying the good news, you’ll know why!
