Fuelie 1957 Corvette Barn Find Sells Quick After Being Offered for $30K on Facebook

Can you really buy a 1957 Corvette fuelie for less than $30,000?

Like finding out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

We spotted this seemingly great deal on Barn Finds, which had unearthed it the day after Christmas on Facebook Marketplace out of Wilmington, Massachusetts.

The ad read simply: “Non running vintage corvette. Make an offer. We also have old transmissions and random vette parts. Garaged for the last 40 years. NH title. Sold as is. Already multiple inquiries overnight. If you’re serious make an offer and the deal will go to the highest bidder. There’s already a couple over asking.” The asking price was only $29,995.

Now, though, when you click on the link, it says “This Listing Isn’t Available Anymore.”

Too bad, because it sounded like this car could have been a great deal for a new owner, despite the obvious concerns that it may have just been yet another internet scam.

That’s possible because photos with the listing showed a carburetor on the engine, while fuel injection emblems were on the fenders and trunk. So which is it? We’ve always heard that it was hard to keep the fuelies running properly, so maybe a previous owner ditched his original FI unit and switched to a more dependable carburetor. Who knows at this point?

Still, it would have been nice if this really was a ’57 fuelie since only 1,040 were built that year as options 579A, 579B, 579C, and 579D – ranging in cost from $484.20 to $726.30. Finding one these days is always exciting.

With such an unknown and likely unverifiable history, however, this one might be on its way to becoming an expensive restomod, with a much higher-performing modern engine under its hood. No matter the ultimate powertrain, the rest of the car will need some attention, including a new paint job and interior for starters.

With restored fuelies selling for more than $100,000, it might be cost-effective to tackle this car, especially if the starting point had turned out to be $30k.
