It’s loud, it’s wild, and it’s packing an estimated 750 horsepower — but this 2016 Corvette Z06/Z07 might have a harder time finding its next owner than you’d expect.
The seller admits the car “sounds absolutely ridiculous” and is “extremely fast,” yet there’s one major catch: it won’t pass California smog because the catalytic converters have been removed.
Still, the owner — who listed the car northeast of Los Angeles on Craigslist for $73,500 — is hoping the right buyer won’t mind. In fact, he’s even open to a trade plus cash for “something cool,” tossing out possibilities like a Porsche 911, Ferrari, Bentley, or Lamborghini.
And to be fair, the car is undeniably cool.
This Z06/Z07 is a 3LZ convertible with a 7-speed manual, finished in Long Beach Red with the rare Spice Red interior, red top, and matching burgundy brake calipers. It’s loaded with performance upgrades: a Magnuson supercharger, Kooks long tube headers, AWE intake, Corsa Extreme cat back, a tune, pulley upgrade, Forgeline wheels, and carbon ceramic brakes courtesy of the Z07 package. It’s also been recently ceramic coated.
With just 16,000 miles, a clean title, and a long list of expensive mods, it’s the kind of Corvette that turns heads even before the engine fires. But in California, no catalytic converters means no smog certification — and no smog certification means no registration.
That’s the dilemma.
For the right buyer outside California, or someone looking for a track toy, this triple burgundy Z06/Z07 might be a dream. For anyone trying to keep it street legal in the Golden State, it’s a tougher sell.
Either way, the listing is honest, bold, and very Corvette:

Probably a dumb question, but why do something like that for a lot of money with the universal knowledge of CA’s smog laws in effect for over 50 years? It’s not like removing catalytic converters is lurking in the fine print just to screw the unsuspecting.
@Chazoo nobody said Californians were too bright after all they voted for Newsome Twice and Democrats have turned California from a jewel to homeless drug and feces infected wasteland with the highest taxes in the nation I wonder if him selling has anything to do with the $9.00 a gallon gasoline.
Car would be worth much more if it didn’t have all those mods. Market for buyers is much smaller. And he will never get back what he spent modding the car.
It is the sellers responsibility, by law, to smog a car in California. So if someone buys it they can force the seller to make it pass smog on the sellers dime. The state will make the seller pay for it. I’ve seen this exact situation happen.
I guess someone didn’t swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!
