Confirmed: 2024 Corvette E-Ray Production Has Started

It’s been a long time coming but now we can confirm on Monday that production has officially started on the 2024 Corvette E-Ray.

Earlier on Monday, The Detroit News broke a story about the new E-Ray starting production on Monday evening, which they source to an employee memo alerting workers that there would be filming inside the Corvette Assembly Plant to “capture the historic moment in Corvette history.”

Tonight our sources confirmed that the first retail 2024 E-Rays are on the assembly line, although how many initially remains to be seen as Corvette Team members have suggested the car will undergo a very slow and deliberate start up once production commences. Now’s the time to keep your eyes on those daily production reports.

Many of the first customer TPWs have shifted in the previous weeks from December to now tentatively scheduled for January and early February, so this start of regular production for the Corvette E-Ray is a welcome sight.

Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick won the right for the first retail version of the Corvette E-Ray at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, bidding $1.15 million for the right to build VIN 001.

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray is Chevrolet’s first performance hybrid, and it never needs to be plugged in as it regenerates its 1.9 kWh battery from normal driving, coasting, and braking. The front electric motor makes 160 horsepower and 125 lb. ft of torque. Overall, it makes 655 horsepower with the combined LT2 6.2L 495-hp V8 gas-powered engine in the rear. And with the addition of eAWD, the Corvette E-Ray is the quickest Corvette yet, capable of a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.5 seconds and 10.5 seconds @ 130 mph in the quarter-mile.
