For the young – or just the young at heart – comes this customized Corvette go-kart.
Built to resemble a 1958 Corvette, this mini-Vette will soon have a new owner since it’s being offered at no reserve on Bring a Trailer out of the La Verne, California area.
So far, the high bid has outdone some of the real Corvettes we’ve seen at auction, hitting $5,500 already with six more days to go.
The owner, who purchased the go-kart last year, says he figures the biggest person who would fit behind the three-spoke steering wheel would be about 5 feet, 6 inches.
The go-kart features lots of nice features, including a tubular steel chassis, an Airheart disc brake, staggered-width 5-inch aluminum wheels inside Mojo slick tires, and Predator 212cc single-cylinder engine with chrome air intake, custom fuel tank, and cut-off switch in the center. It sends power to the rear axle through a centrifugal clutch and drive chain. One drawback is that the body has to be removed to start the go-kart.
Painted in 50th anniversary burgundy paint with white coves, the go-kart features airbrushed details and hand-painted logos, along with a tinted windscreen, silver-painted faux headlights, grille, and bumpers, polished faux exhaust outlets, painted front and rear emblems, and a single seat trimmed in gray vinyl with a matching dash, padded cockpit surround, and steering wheel trim.
One person commented on Bring a Trailer that men trying to sell their wives on the idea of buying an expensive go-kart might mention that it’s “for the kids.” Yeah, right…
