You never know what a fellow enthusiast is hiding in his garage. Just check out this rather dusty 1967 Corvette Sting Ray convertible with a 427 Tri-Power engine lurking under its hood.

Unfortunately, that powerful engine that features three carburetors isn’t the original one that left with the car from the St. Louis factory some 56 years ago, and furthermore, it reportedly developed a rod knock some 30 years ago.

This piece of Sting Ray history has therefore been relegated to the storage bin since the 1990s, including the past seven years in the garage from which it was finally rescued.

The guys at YouTube’s “Auto Archaeologist” documented the removal of the car onto a rollback for the new owners, who are reportedly hoping to check out that 427 engine and find out for sure whether it does have a rod knock.

“I guess the owner started up the 427 on a cold day and didn’t let it warm up and it got a little bit of rock knock,” explains the host of the show, “and it’s been basically sitting since. We’re not sure when that rod knock happened – we think in the ’90s – so the engine is not original to the car but still cool.”

The rest of the car, including its blue paint that still seems to have a sparkle underneath all that dust, seems to have been well preserved over the decades while being stored indoors. Even though some mice are said to have been living in the black interior, the seat covers, dash, and carpet seem to be in acceptable enough condition for a barn find.

While the lack of the original motor certainly hurts the resale value of the car, it’s still an impressive find for some lucky enthusiast. What do you think?

  1. Not bad at all for an old garage find car. Has a lot of potential to become a nice looking, fun to drive classic Corvette.
