Vanderbrink Auctions will be helping to liquidate the Schildberg Collection this Saturday in Greenfield, Iowa. The diverse collection is a walk through decades of automotive history and features everything from prewar classics to 70’s cruisers, vintage snowmobiles, and more.
The collection was assembled over the years by local businessman Dennis Schildberg and his wife, Marlene. Their portfolio grew over time and ultimately included a successful Chevrolet dealership. Sadly, both Dennis and Marlene have passed on, and the family has made the difficult decision to liquidate their museum collection.
Several Corvettes and some cool Corvette memorabilia will be offered as part of the sale. Leading the available Corvettes are a trio of early C1’s from 1953, 1954, and 1955. Additionally, you’ll find a 1963 Split Window Coupe, a 1985 coupe, and a 2000 convertible.
Lot# 18R: 1953 Polo White / Red Roadster
This first year Corvette is number 139 of the 300 built that year. The car wears an older restoration that still runs and drives after its time in the museum and personal collection. A Blue Flame 6 engine provides power, and the auction listing states, “It does not appear to be 100% numbers matching but will review.” The odometer shows 82,023 miles and the sale includes the spare tire, side curtains, and jack. All of which are stored neatly in the trunk.
Lot #19R: 1954 Pennant Blue / Beige Roadster
1954 was the first year Corvettes were available in colors other than white. In addition to Polo White, and Sportsman Red, buyers could select Pennant Blue like this striking 1954 roadster. The interior is finished in beige which is flanked by a matching convertible top. It’s traveled 95,778 miles from new, and the sale includes the jack, side curtains, and spare tire. Power is supplied by a Blue Flame 6 inline engine that does not appear to be 100% numbers matching.
Lot# 20R: 1955 Gypsy Red / Beige Roadster
A new V8 engine headlined Corvette’s 3rd year of production. While total production dropped to 700 units, Corvette had turned a corner in its rapid ascent to becoming America’s sports car. This Gypsy Red example is #366 produced that year. The red exterior is complemented by a beige interior and soft top. Like the other C1’s in the collection it’s an older restoration that runs and drives. The V8 appears to be non-numbers matching and the listing states they will be adding more photos.
Lot# 21R: 1963 Daytona Blue / Black Split Window Coupe
Showing 41,255 miles on the odometer, this 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe features the numbers matching 340hp 327ci engine that’s mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The listing says that it appears to have been repainted and still has the original black seats. It goes on to state “The car runs and drives, but has been sitting and like any muscle cars, they need to be driven and some tune up from sitting in the museum.”
The final two Corvettes are great low-mile examples from the 4th and 5th generations. The white over red 1985 coupe was bought new by the Schildberg family and shows just 6,458 original miles. It features the L98 5.7L engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Dark Red over black 2000 convertible shows just 4,148 miles on the odometer. Its powertrain consists of the 345hp LS1 engine and an automatic transmission.
In addition to the great Corvettes, some neat Corvette memorabilia is available as well. We’re loving the Corvette go kart and the used 1953 windshield is a cool hard to find item. We also love the cool aftermarket 1950’s dash mounted compass among the other Corvette-related items offered.

The Schildberg Collection Auction
The Schildberg Collection auction hosted by Vanderbrink will take place Saturday June 13th at 107 E. Iowa St. in Greenfield, Iowa, 50849. Doors open at 8am on the day of the sale and gavels will start falling at 10am. An auction preview is being held Friday, June 12th from 10am-6pm. Vanderbrink encourages all buyers to inspect items thoroughly prior to bidding.
