[VIDEO] Watch as a 1953 Corvette is Rescued from an Old Barn

Stay tuned as an exciting journey back to life for one of the first 300 Corvettes ever made is documented on the Corvette Genius YouTube channel.

We just watched the first episode about this 1953 Corvette that’s been stored in a dilapidated barn in Nebraska for about 50 years, and it’s always exciting to find another ’53 that’s been rescued – particularly in this case since the barn is leaning and looks like one day a good puff of wind might just finally send it all the way over.

Not yet, though, as Corvette Genius is able to get the car out of the barn – with the use of a winch thanks to locked-up rear axle and brakes – and into an enclosed trailer for the ride back to his shop for a total restoration.

The Corvette is believed to have been what’s known as the General Lemay car that was raced at SAC and air bases around the Midwest in the ’50s and ’60s, C.G. tells us. “This car has an incredible history behind it that the owner has shared with us from the last 50-plus years of ownership,” he says.

“I am super excited to say that we are going to be part of bringing this car back to life from this barn it’s been sitting in since the late ’60s or early ’70s,” Corvette Genius says. “It’s a rare honor to be involved in a project of this magnitude, and I can’t believe another ’53 Corvette has been found.”

Apparently before General Lemay raced the car, it was used by General Motors as one of their test cars for paint and body impact. Scattered throughout the barn and other storage facilities are many rare parts that will be used to put it all back together, including the Blue Flame Six engine.

“We’ve got a great amount of parts to pull out of different garages,” Corvette Genuis says, “but we’re one step closer and she’s in the trailer going to a good place for a great restoration. Thank goodness the barn didn’t fall over before we got the car out.”

You can expect to be seeing “a tremendous amount of historical videos” from the Corvette Genius channel as they begin the restoration of this historically significant sports car, he says, adding “Today was Day 1 of a long journey.”
