After decorating the ’58 Corvette with chrome spears on the trunk, washboard louvers on the hood, and fake vents in the coves, Chevy decided to “clean up” its act with the ’59.

Someone apparently forgot to send that memo to the owner of this 1959 Corvette that could definitely use a good cleaning these days after spending an unspecified amount of time in the wilds of Walker, Louisiana.

This barn find is being offered on eBay, and with the auction coming to a close on Sunday, 24 bids have already soared to $29,100 – within striking distance of the “Buy It Now” price of $35,000.

While the car could definitely use a wash job, the seller notes that the body is not bad, calling it “pretty much a no hit car with original nose and bonding strips.” Meanwhile, he describes the chassis as “fair with no rot or patches.”

All that time in the elements has obviously taken its toll on the interior, however, and that part of the car would require a full restoration.

A non-running 283/230 horsepower engine is still in place, though, but we’re not told if it is the original powerplant that left with the car from St. Louis. We do know that the engine is hooked to the “super rare” factory automatic transmission, an option chosen by only 1,878 of the 9,670 customers that year at a cost of $199.10. The hardtop, which appeared on 5,481 units at a cost of $236.75, is also included.

We heard about this car from our friends at Barn Finds, and they note three colors are visible on this car – red on the steering wheel and waterfall and in the trunk, teal on the dash, and white (covered with camouflage green and brown weathering) on the body. What do you think this car looked like originally, and which direction would you take it – toward a restomod or a stock restoration?

  1. This makes me happy to have bought a fresh body-off frame restored 59 matching dual quad 4-speed car hardtop power windows for $70,000. Ready to show and drive. This junker is only suitable for a resto-mod, being an automatic. You will spend $200,000 on it. Restoring to stock will also be $200,000 and will end up with a car worth $60,000 being a 230 HP auto.

  2. This would be a decent buy for someone that could do that work themselves but not at $35,000! One would need to pay about $8,000 for it and like myself do the work yourself. I had to put a new frame under our 1968 vette conv. 37 years ago and I rebuilt everything myself except the engine and trans that I had rebuilt.
