Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette Widebody Racer with Significant Racing and Ownership History

A “significant piece” of Corvette history dating back more than half a century is currently for sale for $125,000 on Facebook Marketplace out of the Marietta, Georgia area.

This 1969 Corvette coupe ran with the major teams and held its own despite operating on a fraction of the budget typical for a major team, according to a 2012 letter from Jerry Thompson, a former driver who had raced the car in the ’70s.

The car was originally owned by Randy Wittine, one of Zora Arkus-Duntov’s race engineers and designers, before being purchased by Dr. Richard Bostvan, a prominent Daytona orthodontist and president of the Daytona Corvette Club.

“Doc” Bostvan had it converted to full race trim at Dale Kreider’s Buggyworks with help from former Owens-Corning team racer Jerry Thompson, and the car subsequently raced at Daytona, Sebring, and many tracks in the Southeast during the 1970s with co-drivers Don Yenko, Thompson, and Gene Felton. Converted to a Greenwood wide body around 1979, the car was retired shortly thereafter.

“Doc spent for the best parts and kept them fresh,” Thompson recalls in his letter, “but the crew was all volunteer, the tow car was an Oldsmobile station wagon, and the diet was hamburgers.”

Jerry Thompson’s son, Chris, found this Corvette in the garage at Daytona where it had rested for many years. It was commissioned and put back on the track at Daytona, where the two Thompsons raced it in 2010 at the HSR Historics.

After being purchased by the current owners, the car was sent to Kevin MacKay for a frame-off restoration and has since been displayed at many events, including MCACN, NCRS Nationals, and the National Corvette Museum.

Described as a “great Corvette race car from the golden era,” this legendary Corvette still retains its Bill King 454 big block built to L88 specs.
