Corvettes for Sale: One Owner 1960 Corvette Offered on the Corvette Forum

This 1960 Corvette has been in the same family since it was purchased new on Oct. 27, 1960 at a St. Louis, Missouri dealer for the drive-out price of $3,555.20.

Now it’s being offered for sale on Corvette Forum for $79,500, with a family friend brokering the sale and offering to “do my best to make sure both parties are satisfied regarding the sale of this car.”

The car originally listed for $4,437.30 but was discounted a whopping $977.30 by Barford Chevrolet Company in Clayton, Missouri. Equipment included a four-speed manual transmission, heater, radio, whitewall tires, lighter, radiator fan, Positraction axle, sunshade, and windshield washer. Also included with the sale is a matching hardtop.

This vintage C1 Corvette retains its original Ermine White paint, though it does show signs of its age with various cracks and weathering. The body is described as being “straight,” with the chrome in “average” condition.

The original owner drove it regularly around town for the first several years of its life before handing it down to the second of two sons in 1968. He decided to replace the stock 283 engine with a new DZ302 V8 from the local Chevy dealer in a quest for higher revving power. A year or so later, it had to be replaced after hairline cracks in two of the cylinder walls were discovered in the block. The crank, cams, pistons, and heads from the ’68 DZ are believed to still be inside the ’69 block inside the car today.

In 1972, with a career and kids on the way, the son parked the Corvette in his garage and rarely drove it until 2018 when he decided to begin making it ready for the road again. “Most of this work was done by the owner, now an SCCA road racing veteran, with a good friend who is in the restoration business,” the listing explains.

Work done at that time (with a complete list of receipts) included new front end, kingpins, suspension bushings all around, tie rod ends, springs, upgraded Bilstein HD shocks, factory exhaust tips (fitted to Smitty mufflers and fed through shorty headers), as well as a brake system overhaul with an upgrade to front discs. The chassis was stripped and sprayed with rust inhibitor, and the original steering box was deemed to be in tolerance and was adjusted accordingly. Many new factory reproduction parts were professionally installed in the red interior, including dash pad, carpets, and seat covers. The entire gauge cluster and Wonderbar radio were sent out to be rebuilt and now work perfectly. Also added were new windshield seals and four new tires.

He drove the car frequently during nice weather from 2019 until falling ill and passing away in 2021. The car then passed down to his daughter, who is described as “not a car person” in the listing. Now, she’s asked a friend to help her with the sale of the car.

“This is a quick, well handling, driver-ready C1 Corvette that is waiting to be enjoyed by its new owner,” he says. “I am selling for the family with a clean and clear title in the owner’s name. The car is currently located in California. Any spare parts as well as copies of documentation will go to the new owner.”
