Our spy photographers were recently able to capture a 2024 Corvette E-Ray Convertible completely undisguised ahead of its official reveal on January 17th. The spy photos captured the sports car wearing Z06 badging and wheels, but it’s the Stingray’s LT2 exhaust tips that are the giveaway that this isn’t an export version of the Z06.
Just yesterday, Chevrolet teased the reveal of the E-Ray which will happen 70 years to the date of the Corvette’s original reveal at the GM Motorama held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 1953. That teaser video also showed off “Stealth Mode” which appears to allow the car to start up and drive on electric power only.
We consistently read that “true” enthusiasts have no interest in an E-Ray, saying they don’t want any Corvette with an “E” (for electric) in the name, but we believe the Corvette E-Ray will be a real performance machine with up to 650 horsepower onboard that includes the 495-hp LT2 V8 engine working with the assistance of one or two electric motors on the front axles. It’s the first Corvette with All Wheel Drive and many are speculating that the AWD E-Ray may just be one of the quickest quarter-mile Corvettes ever produced.
Going back to the spy photos, we see the E-Ray Convertible prototype in Hypersonic Gray wearing body-colored trim around the front fascia, rear grills, and the side air intake. The Convertible also features Carbon Flash black nacelles and roof, along with black side mirrors and a black rear spoiler, while the front splitter and side rockers appear to be visible carbon fiber.
The real tell that our spy photographer has been adamant about is the inclusion of the LT2-style exhaust tips on the car instead of the exhaust tips we’ve seen on those Z06 Export cars. The Z06 has a separate export-only exhaust that contains the gasoline particulate filters that are required in Europe and Australia. Those filters don’t fit on the Z06 with the center-quad exhaust which is why Chevrolet has to offer them mounted on the corners of the rear fascia. However, those export tips are different than those on the Tenneco Exhaust System which you can see in the side-by-side photos.
With this E-Ray sighting, we also see that same configuration of radiators on the front driver side that looks like engineers have mounted a secondary radiator with vertical openings on top of the regular radiator that has horizontal openings. We saw this same configuration on yesterday’s teaser video, as well as on a Z06 export car that we originally believed to be an E-Ray despite it wearing the Z06 export tips. This is one of the E-Ray features that we are anxious to learn more about.
There are just six days remaining before the Corvette Team officially reveals the new 2024 Corvette E-Ray, but you can enjoy all of our spy photos of the car right now! For more on the first eAWD Corvette, visit our E-Ray Archives.

Stingrays come with the LT2 chrome tips but if you order the optional black tips they are the larger flat tipped design as seen on export Z06s. Similarly, expect Erays to come with the chrome LT2 tips as standard but it’s likely there will be a black tip option as on the Stingray, making them indistinguishable from an export Z06. (Except for the sound, wheels and badges).
WHO REALLY CARES ??????
The more changes I see for the C8, the more I love my C6 Z06 with FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN CUBIC INCHES and a six speed. I’m from the old days and “427” has a magical ring to it along with a manual shift transmission.
I’m hoping for optional black trim like even the less expensive Corvettes. I think I would be going for wheels other than the skinny new five spoke ones not shown here.
It’s not bad if you’re into that kind of thing but I don’t want one myself.
Amazing stuff on the horizon. Fighting specs to go up against Porsche, Audi, et al. Love it.
Honestly, the styling changes on this model are awful. The front facia is a jumbled mess and the multiple side “character lines” are confusing. I prefer the original design of the base Stingray by far. It’s cleaner & much sleeker looking.
