Earlier this month we learned that GM and Michelin had once again joined forces to field a new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport in the annual Tire Rack One Lap of America competition. The Grand Sport featured the Z52 Sport Package paired with the Carbon Fiber Aero wing and ground effects, as well as Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4S tires. Its team of drivers consisted of GM engineer Andrew Abbott and Michelin engineer Andrew Simrel.

During the 8-day competition, the teams drive hundreds of miles across multiple states to various racing venues and then must compete in a number of driving related activities that include autocrosses, wet and dry skid pads, speedway ovals, and time attacks on road courses. Each team must be self-sufficient in taking what they need to complete a full week of racing, and they have to do it all on one set of tires.

The key to doing well in the One Lap of America is consistency, and the Grand Sport and its drivers performed admirably over the course of the 8-day competition. At the end of the event, the team finished 2nd in class and were 7th overall.

“This was an incredible week and a true testament to this team and beyond,” Abbot said after the results were tallied. “The car ran flawlessly all week with zero issues.”

GM has a really great write-up that takes us through each of the days, and they highlighted the moments where the Grand Sport and its pair of drivers really shined. You can read all about it at news.gm.com.
