Corvettes for Sale: 12k-Mile 1991 Corvette ZR-1 on Bring a Trailer

Compared to modern cars, the fourth-generation Corvette ZR-1s don’t seem that daunting.

But back in the day, these so-called “King of the Hill” Corvettes represented quite a leap in performance, producing 375 horsepower compared to the base car’s 245 or 250.

One very nicely preserved 1991 ZR-1 is being offered on Bring a Trailer, and the current high bid is just $5,100 – with six days left in the auction, however. That’s a long way from the $65,638 MSRP that the car commanded back in the day, with the ZR-1 option accounting for some $31,683 of that. However, at Mecum Indy earlier this month, five of the six C4 ZR-1s sold for at least $44,000 so we may perhaps finally be seeing a realignment of pricing for these collectibles.

TITLE

This car – purchased new from Ron Marhofer Chevrolet in Stow, Ohio – has been driven a total of less than 12,000 miles over the past 31 years and has a clean Carfax report with no accidents or damage reported but 19 service history records.

The Bright Red paint and red leather interior are both still in showroom condition, other than a paint chip underneath the battery cover and some slight scuffing on the driver’s seat bolsters from getting in and out of the car over the years. Photos also show some clouding of the specially laminated solar windshield glass in all four corners.

Other than that, the car seems to look just as nice as the day it left Marhofer Chevrolet, which we’re sure was quite an exciting time for everyone involved since ’91 marked only the second year of production for the ZR-1, with 2,044 built.

The star of the show, of course, is the all-aluminum 5.7-liter LT5 double overhead cam V8 engine that produced 375 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque and was designed through a joint effort of GM and Lotus and built by Mercury Marine.

  1. I remember the magazine covers from back in the day calling it “The King of the Hill.” Amazing how far we’ve come from the sub-400 HP days and how many vehicles now easily surpass that number.

  2. I recently sold my ’94 ZR-1 for $44,600. It had 19000 mi. & only 3 minor blems in the Admiral blue paint.

  3. Beautiful ZR-1. Thanks for featuring a C4. Sure, compared to 2022 cars, it doesn’t seem so hot. But, in the 1990s it was the King of the Hill. Those who know Corvette history can appreciate what the ZR-1 meant for all the Vettes that came after it.

  4. NICE CAR…LOVE ALL BODY STYLES OF THE CORVETTE….THIS IS A C-4 CORVETTE GET YOUR EYES CHECKED !!!!

  5. Just so you know, I do know a C4 from a C5 as I’ve owned five C4s ranging from an 84 to a 95. I just never cared for the styling of the C5 compared to a C4, C6 or C7. Plus nobody can deny that the C5 has too wide a rear end on it!
