Corvettes for Sale: 1976 Stingray on Craigslist Has Rare Color Combo

Though mid-1970s Corvettes are sometimes ridiculed nowadays for their lack of power and overall build quality, this writer fondly remembers seeing a brochure with a new silver Stingray very similar to this 1976 T-top coupe that’s up for sale on Craigslist out of Asbury, New Jersey.

While these cars may not be as powerful or fancy as the mid-engine C8 of today, these Corvettes nevertheless held just as powerful a tug on my youthful heartstrings as any 2022 Stingray.

It could be argued, in fact, that the mid-1970s through the early 1980s were the heyday of the Corvette, at least based on sales. From 1976 through 1981, sales totaled a whopping 236,968 – including the all-time records of 53,807 in 1979 and 49,213 in 1977.

1976 wasn’t too shabby sales-wise, either, with 46,558 of these Coke-bottle-shaped lovelies leaving the St. Louis factory.

This particular example includes the popular silver paint on the outside (6,934 built, second only to Classic White’s 10,674), but it has the distinction of having the rare blue-green Deluxe Leather Interior.

The seller boasts “you will probably never see another one with this beautiful color combo.”

Exactly how rare we don’t know for sure since the only known interior color quantities, according to the Corvette Black Book, are for black vinyl, black leather, buckskin vinyl, buckskin leather, dark brown leather, firethorn vinyl, and firethorn leather. Those add up to 41,010, leaving just 5,548 others that would have been done in either Blue-Green, White, or Smoked Grey.

This car includes lots of nice features, including a 350 V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, tilt steering, power windows, chrome luggage rack (some people hate these, but we think they really set off this body style), and removable T-tops.

About the only negative we can find to say about this car is that it doesn’t have air conditioning – a necessity if you live in the South the way we do. To install a Vintage Air kit would run close to $5,000.

Overall, though, the seller calls this Stingray a “beautiful ready to enjoy driver.” We’d tend to agree, at least by looking at all the photos.

Indeed, the car comes with a folder full of receipts and the seller says there are too many new parts to list. The car has new BFGoodrich T/A Radials with new trim rings and center caps, all new brakes, redone stainless steel exhaust “that sounds just right,” new four-barrel carburetor, electronic ignition upgrade, and lots more.

Photos show a “clean smooth frame,” and the seller points out that the car has always been kept in a garage with no winter driving, though we’re not told how far back his ownership history goes.

In sum, this vintage Stingray “runs, drives, handles, and stops like a dream,” and the seller urges potential buyers that “C3 Corvettes are on the rise” and “don’t miss this beauty that’s ready to drive and enjoy.”

With an asking price of $14,900, this appears to be an inexpensive way to get into the Corvette hobby with a car that’s sure to be a hit at any show.
