Imagine the 2022 Corvette Stingray roaring along the streets of beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Customers in that South American country don’t have to just dream about driving the new mid-engine Corvette as an import company named Direct Imports is already delivering the cars there.

In fact, the first five 2022 models were registered in Brazil during January through an exclusive independent program offered by Direct Imports, which imports and delivers new and pre-owned vehicles in Sao Paolo.

The South American subsidiary of General Motors, for some reason, doesn’t sell the C8 there, but Direct Imports has been regularly importing new Corvettes since the first quarter of 2020 on a limited basis. Only 20 units have been sold each year because of manufacturing limitations and the high price tag.

“The Corvette C8 has been in high demand even in this bullish dollar scenario and we were able to make reservations to secure these units for the lucky top 20,” said Direct Imports CEO Daniel Valerio in a press release, adding that there are still units left to close the company’s 2022 U.S. reserves.

That some cars are still available probably isn’t too surprising since the base price of the 2022 Corvette in Brazil is the equivalent of $264,900 USD or 1.4 million BRL in local currency.

Interested customers are invited to order their new Corvette through the importer’s website or at the company’s headquarters. Only configuration available is the Z51 coupe, though cars are available in 12 exterior paint colors, with three interior packages and optional accessories.

Just a caution though for American owners looking to flip their Corvette to an exporter. That recent letter from GM’s Steve Carlisle to dealers explicitly warned them against working with brokers as well as exporting vehicles. New customers who are found to have flipped a Corvette to an exporter who takes it out of the country could find themselves banned from any future new GM purchases as well.
