Let’s hear it for the Central Pennsylvania Corvette Club who, like many Corvette clubs, is working to make their community a better place.

We recently caught word that the club had donated two of these really cool mini Corvettes to the University of Pittsburg Medical Center (UPMC) in Harrisburg. The Corvettes will be used to calm and ease the anxiety of their pediatric patients as they can now cruise into the operating room in style!

“A couple years ago, we heard about another organization that had done this at a local hospital in their area, and our club members thought it would be a really great idea to do it,” said Karen Brickner, the president of the Central Pennsylvania Corvette Club.

UPMC clinical’s director Riquel Hutchinson hopes these new additions will keep their youngest patients relaxed and at ease during their stay at the hospital.

“This is usually the first time that many of the children have been in this environment. They’re fearful. They’re scared. They’re crying at times,” she said.

The mini Corvettes have some pretty cool features including a button that makes authentic engine sounds and there is even a radio with a couple of stations on the dial. The kids are able to operate the car independently but the accompanying nurse does have override control of the Corvette.

“To make it a place that they’re not fearful to come and know that, at times, we can actually make it a little fun for them and to reduce their anxiety. That’s the overall goal,” Hutchinson said.

  1. Really cool story! If you are wondering why the design of these mini “Vettes” doesn’t exactly ring a bell, they seem to be modeled after the Lykan Hypersport of Furious 7 fame. It is a curious licensing combination but a great cause, so who cares, really?
