Katech Previews Their 703 horsepower Naturally Aspirated Corvette LT1 427 Racing Engine

Corvette enthusiasts know that perhaps the easiest way to get more power from an engine is to add a supercharger and some other go fast parts. But that may not necessarily be the best way if you’re planning on turning your Corvette into a dedicated racer.

Katech Performance is showing a different route performance junkies and dedicated racers can take with the Stingray’s Gen 5 LT1 V8 by going back to the naturally aspirated 427 “stroker” design which Katech says its capable of producing upwards of 703 horsepower and 625 lb-ft on 93 octane fuel.

Katech previewed the new LT1 427 NA engine on the Corvette Forum last week along with the claim that this is the highest horsepower naturally aspirated Gen 5 LT1 in the world. Backing up that claim is the dyno sheet showing the 703 hp/625 lb-ft of torque:

While the AFM part of the LT1s fuel management systems was jettisoned, the NA LT1 427 still retains direct injection and variable valve timing. Katech says they made improvements to the factory oiling system which they found wanting under road racing conditions. Katech’s new 4 stage dry sump adds a scavenge pump to pull more oil from the pan back into the sump tank and it also creates a vacuum in the crankcase that improves ring sealing.

Here are some of the specs listed on the Forum by Jason Harding who is the Director of Aftermarket Operations for Katech:

  • 703hp/625lb-ft on 93 octane
  • 4.070×4.100″
  • Callies forged crank/rods
  • Katech forged pistons by Mahle
  • Katech LT1 piston squirters
  • 12.5:1CR for use with premium pump gas
  • DI
  • Katech AFM delete valley cover
  • Katech CNC ported heads
  • Very streetable camshaft. Same or better drivability than K501.

The build will also use two new Katech products including the aforementioned 4-stage dry sump and a new Katech throttle body.

Jason said that Katech is still working out the pricing on the build, but said it would be very reasonable for a forged 427 built engine.
