Is a Conservative ECU Tune Responsible for Power Loss on the 2015 Corvette Z06?

A conservative ECU setup by Chevrolet appears to be the cause for the power loss some 2015 Corvette Z06 owners say they are experiencing after heavy use on the highway or the track.

Some people thought the power loss might be caused by a heat soak problem, which is caused by the buildup of heat in the engine compartment after several full throttle runs. This heat cuts the efficiency of the supercharger because hot air has reduced oxygen molecule density, meaning less fuel will be burned.

We think Top Gear made the right call in calling the Corvette Z06 their ‘Muscle Car of the Year’ (even though it’s a sports car, not a muscle car). Check out this beautiful test drive of the Z06 which includes a ride through the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap.

Top Gear selected the 2015 Corvette as the magazine’s 2015 “Muscle Car of the Year”. The editors said “Go to the outer edge of your personal comfort zone, and the Z06 will meet you there. It’ll trade blows with the best that AMG, BMW, Ferrari or Porsche has to offer, on the trickiest tracks in the world. It’ll make you feel like a million dollars, but costs a fraction of that. America has a new hero.”

The beautiful sound of that Corvette Stingray engine humming down the highway could well be the theme song for the Tonawanda Engine Plant, where the seventh-generation Corvette’s powerplant is being manufactured.

Life hasn’t always been so rosy for the New York plant, which suffered through the auto industry downturn during the recent recession but has roared back to life with a vengeance thanks to the success of the new Stingray.

We told you a few weeks ago about the sale of the mysterious Peter Max collection of Corvettes.

Apparently there’s more to the story now.

A lawsuit filed recently claims that the psychedelic pop artist of the 1960s – who once painted an entire Boeing 777 and a 600-foot stage for the Woodstock Music Festival – hasn’t paid two New York men the commissions he allegedly promised them for handling the sale of the 36 Corvettes.

Corvette performance enthusiasts everywhere collectively gasped and then were silenced when they first learned earlier this week that the mightly 650 horsepower 2015 Corvette Z06 was beaten not once, not twice, but seven damn times by a 2014 Viper TA in various races.

But we’re not the only ones upset by the news. It seems a certain fascist German dictator who was looking forward to getting his own C7 Corvette Z06 also heard the news and flipped out on his lieutenants in the viral “Downfall” meme known as “Hitler Finds Out About…”.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has only been in customers hands for a week and many Corvette fans were crushed when they saw the video of a 2014 Viper TA beating the new 650 hp Corvette Z06 in seven different races. Now, the inevitable “Hitler Finds Out About…” video has arrived.
